So Cinemark and AMC both had their best post pandemic single days from Mario, even though NWH had 3 days that were all > Mario Saturday, so was that movie making all its money at Regal and Harkins and Star Cinema Grill?

  • Mario sold a lot of children's matinee tickets, in 2D those are especially cheap.
  • Movies 2-5 were much stronger this week vs No Way Home's opening weekend.

Yikes to the Guardians 3 presales.

This explains why so many theaters were reporting that crowds were the biggest they had ever seen since Endgame

Just realised out that Sony's "Spider-Man: No Way Home" wasn't that big.... (☉。☉)!

Yikes to the Guardians 3 presales.

We tracked whole chain. The biggest mario date(850k ish) on saturday did not come close to No Way Home friday(1.05 million).

@charlie Jatinder can also corroborate.

A reason to not think GOTG3 will reverse its worrying trend.

I took a gander at GOTG2's OW audience demos...and wouldn't you say those demos are now most likely to either be D+ subscribers (hi me), be folks who dropped the MCU after endgame, or be folks that have just stopped going to movies overall?

Here's GOTG2's OW demo from Deadline - now compare it to Mario's this weekend...and get a little worried...Latinos are a STRONG movie going demo now, and they were definitely under-indexed even for GOTG2...at least OW...

"PostTrak updates their audience polls throughout the weekend and GOTG2 is still strong among older men and women over 25 with 32% and 26%, respectively. Guys under 25 rep 25% of all moviegoers, while females of that age are at 18%. All this means is that Marvel fans are aging up, and that those who were under 25 when the first movie opened crossed over. Strong positive reactions among all four demos with M25+ (94%), M25- (93%),  F25+ (91%) and F25- (88%). Disney shows that 72% adults came out for GOTG2, 19% families, and 9% teens. Fifty-four percent of all GOTG moviegoers were Caucasian, 19% Hispanic, 12% African American and 9% Asian. Imax hubs delivered $13M of GOTG2‘s weekend stateside with the large format exhibitor ranking in seven of the sequel’s top 10 locations."

That makes better sense if its overall BO for the day not just Mario. Then its possible saturday would be bigger than NWH saturday.

did you know people are now calling you key?

I used to think your username was keyser-zone (misspelled version of geyser-zone); just remembered the usual suspects was a thing

Sunday's sales normally suck but these are levels I have not see for past 4 MCU sequels. Let us see if it recovers on Monday.

Britney Spears GIF

jfc man. I know we have discussed all possible reasons ad nauseam but to see gotg3 feel so hopeless is crazy. Just feels like the saga deserves a better sendoff than this even with all that's going on in the MCU. I'm flabbergasted at how bad things are going. Hopefully it recovers a bit..

Moderation

I’m seeing a lot of comments in this thread that have nothing to do with tracking. The tracking thread is one of the few places on this site that’s mostly free of pointless meandering and we’re gonna keep it that way. Take these discussion topics to the right places or cease them all together.
