Solid final day for Creed. Probably looking at about 4.5m for just thursday and around 6.5m including early shows(Monday and Wednesday). I dont have MTC2 number yet but sample data so far looks even better with walkups as MTC2 normally is. Even better news is friday presales. I think its going for at least low teens for just friday and may be even higher with strong reviews/reactions helps walkups through the weekend. I definitely feel strongly about 50m+ OW for Creed III at this point. its going to have a great saturday increase and a soft Sunday drop as is for movies with strong WOM.

I don't have any good recent comps for this at all.  So against my better judgement, I'm pulling up some 2021 comps, without any sort of ATP adjustment.  I did want to add NTTD, but I added the EA showings late (on my third day of tracking), so it's skewed at the moment so I won't add it to the comp block for a bit.

 

Threw in some frontloaded comps and not very good ones, really.  Also wanted to add JWD, but its 40+ day pre-sale pattern made it... unsuitable.  I'll see what other trackers are using, but really no matter how it's sliced, it was a good day for the Baba Yaga locally.

 

Even did very respectable against TGM, which blew the fuck up locally if folks recall.  So I just edited that info in.

To be fair though, Creed 1&2's openings were mid-week Thanksgiving openers. Although, 3 might go beyond what those would've been regardless. Admissions might be down from where 2 would've been at with a normal weekend, would someone be willing to run the math on that?

I haven’t gone super deep on translating Thanksgiving opens, but it had a 61M 7day. That would likely be a ballpark 45M Fri open (though the 7day is probably a  bit inflated).   
 

Had a 2.66x multiplexer from the 3day, and previews 32% of OD — taken together with a 3.2x true IM those would correspond to an Fri opening pattern of:

6M previews

13M true fri

41M true OW // 47M OW  

 

On a quick look say 42-46 with  fri open imo. Adjusted to 2023 atp like 52-57 so will probably be close on admits?

While we have a well reviewed movie with high Quorum interest, do think the OW is benefiting from an underserved audience effect, both in micro (demographically) and macro, in the lack of releases over the past 3.5 months. While there have been some breakout hits in Jan and Feb, they have been mostly niche content: meanwhile Avatar, Puss, BPWF and M3G account for nearly 60% of the gross during those 3 months. AMWQ was positioned to benefit, but reviews were bad, turning off a fair number of people, leaving more of an appetite for what comes next.

 

It hasn't been since last summer when the release calendar had multiple GA/adult skewing films in a row, and I think audiences are a bit hungry after after surviving on holiday leftovers and some appetizers for 3 months
