Major Theater Chain 1/ Major Theater Chain 2/ etc.

As for why they're used a few years back there was a major shitstorm on a precursor version of this thread where some internet rando got miffed/incredulous at the numbers that were being reported for an upcoming CBM and actually started pestering/badgering Senior Executives/Upper Management/Something Like That for one of the Major Theater Chains.

Enough of a shitstorm that it caused the very first version of this thread to get shut down and taken away among other unpleasantness.

More to the story but that's the important trigger. Ever since then, MTC1/MTC2/MTC3 have been used by some folks in this thread to talk about pre-sales at various Major Theater Chains in the DOM market.  I personally am more than a bit agnostic on the usage, but I understand why its used by many here and when they decide to use them.

I admit The Incident did end up giving us one of the best user names on this forum (and lots of related hilarity from Secret Missives from said poster) so it did have a few silver linings. ❤️

which graphs are you referring to?

Just piggybacking off you here :) If referring to the tables of things like seats sold, and percentages-for me the biggest thing is to look at the percentage, which tells the amount of seats sold vs total seat availablity. Where it can come in handy is comparing percentages from different movies around the same time IE say movie A and B are both comic book movies, movie A has 10 percent sold where movie B had 5 percent sold around same time. It COULD suggest that for (reasons) that movie A has more attention being paid to it by fans compared to B. Now the tables DO get more intricate depending on the poster, and really its just a matter of seeing the tables over time where the percentages vary.

Im sure someone can do a LOT better explanation that I can, but thats it in a nutshell from my view :)

The contrast on the showtimes between this and GOTG3 is remarkable. It's remarkable how Cineplex has left money on the table by not allocating more showings.

What's funny is that I'm in Montreal for some work meetings. I was debating on blowing off a dinner tomorrow night with some colleagues to catch Spiderverse, but, the 7pm showing is basically sold out, minus the first two rows of an IMAX screen, and its the only screen showing. Meanwhile, there's 3 screens dedicated to Fast X.

Back when I worked for a certain big theater chain in 2017, I got to see their summer forecast for 2017 and I knew it was going to be hilariously off. I imagine that problem has only gotten worse.

One funny hilariously off moment when I worked for said chain was a local manager thought Ghost in The Shell 2017 of all things was going to be huge so we had a ton of screenings for it....which ended up being mostly empty.

This reminds me of a story @DAJK told. IIRC, when the movie Justice League was coming out, the theater chain he was at were betting big, in fairness due to tracking from the trades, but DAJK knew that his theater had to scale way back, because BOT showed the numbers weren't there. His boss said him and his knowledge saved the theater from losing tons of money that weekend.
