Alien: Romulus | August 16, 2024 | Fede Alvarez | See the original Alien in theaters on April 26

Anyone know which previous Alien movies I need to re-watch before seeing this? I have a pretty busy week coming up, so really I’d only like to watch the “essential viewing” plot and story-wise before Romulus: everything else I can save for later in the month.

I'd say Alien, Prometheus, Aliens. In that order of importance.

Very solid reactions

Good enough for maybe 80´s on RT and high 60´s - low 70´s on MC

Happy that Fede apparetly did make some big swings in his climax, i was scared that it would be only a well made recap of the franchise

The current critics I follow most: Perri Nemiroff and Matt Donato (horror focused) both liked it, but they’re both pretty lukewarm reactions. “Mostly dug” “it’s fine”. Eek.

I saw it.

Spoiler

It takes a while to get going.

It doesn't really do anything new.

There's not much character depth.

But it's solid and the second half is intense, with a couple of strong and memorable setpieces, especially one dealing swirling acid blood.

Can anyone PM me this divisive third act description reactions mention? I'm curious what's divisive about it.

Why some people don't want to be surprised is beyond me

where is he trashing it

"I saw an unfinished cut and gave notes" isn't a backhanded compliment or a diss

He was asked precisely "what did you think of the movie you saw?". He dodged the question and distanced himself from the movie instead. This is not how you react when you liked something. Either Cameron lied to Fede to not upset him or Fede lied Cameron loved it.
