Yes, JWD is going to beat that 2019 Top 10 all on its own ($123.6M). But that was an unusual year, with an early Memorial Day and some underperforming sequels in the 2 weeks after it (Dark Phoenix, Secret Life of Pets 2, MIB international)

That slate oof tom cruise GIF

She's the female Brazilian cop from Fast Five whom they killed off once they brought back Letty. The makers got Dom to be a dad without having to write pregnancy related plot for Michelle Rodriguez.

I have no clue what you're saying lol 🙃

Secret Life of Pets 2 is quite possibly the worst theatrical animated sequel ever made.

It’s quite hard to be worse than Ralph Breaks the Internet.

I forgot the site where I saw this but two guys went to a test screening for that film and argued for 20 pages, calling each other liars, because one guy said the kid was Dom’s and the other guy said the kid wasn’t, all before someone explained they both saw the exact same movie with slightly different endings, and the studio was testing which one played better. The “that kid is probably an orphan” cut of Fast and Furious 8 exists somewhere.

It costs 15M

Netflix learn to spend shit on shitty movies

FWIW, it hit #1 on Netflix’s movie list in many countries the weekend it came out, including the US. So if it was only 15 million, maybe not such a bad investment?

I haven’t seen it, so I have no comment on quality.

I fell asleep watching Despicable Me, went and watched Secret Life of Pets in theaters and there’s a part of me that’s disliked Illumination ever since.

It’s not that their movies are bad but they’re so bland compared to Pixar/Dreamworks and yet they’re perfectly formula’d to print money. Really basic, too. Good animation, 80-90% dumb jokes, extremely simple story with no strength, and big name voices who hardly match their characters.

I was so disappointed in 2018 when I found out the Mario movie was being made by Illumination, and their voice actor choices were a PERFECT illustration as to why. Everybody was stunned by those but I wasn’t in the slightest. They were so on-brand for Illumination.

I think Cars 2 and Shrek 4 would contest that...

Everyone out here forgetting The Nut Job 2 exists!

...Unless we're talking about sequel in terms of "downgrade from original" instead of sheer quality overall. In that case, I'll see myself out!

netflix movies aren't real!

The fact that movie Netflix movie posters look like they could be promotional materials for anything other than a movie really speaks to that “Netflix Films Dont Exist” mentality.

Is this a movie poster or an ad for an online casino? Or vodka? Or perfume? Or Magnum Ice Cream?

Oh. I thought @M37 had access to data.

Sorry nothing official like the purple names (at least not first-hand 🤐)

I wouldn't get too excited based on anecdotes.

I agree, have to be careful from extrapolating from a single data point. But to be clear, I also didn't make that comment off a single data point, but an accumulation of several pieces of data. How much credence you want to give that is up to you, and it is only 7PM on the West Coast anyway
