How big do you see Mario going here?

Super Mario opened on wednesday to 180k admissions (around R$3.2M), beating Ant-Man to the best oD of the year, also doubling John Wick. While very good I'll be honest to say I was expecting more.

Weird part is that Comscore is reporting the movie still released in 2nd to John Wick. Not sure if that is accurate or how JW had such a massive mid-week day.

Adults leaving Kids to watch Mario while they are enjoying John Wick Chapter IV

My logic - Father &Mother - Chapter IV vs their one son/daughter - Mario.

1-2x Mario = John Wick WED Number

:ohmygod:

I wonder if it moving the release one day earlier or the families waiting for the holiday in friday didn't pulled the wednesday numbers down

I think both have an influence in Wednesday numbers. I expect the weekend to be insanely strong in response to that.

I am going Saturday with my girlfriend. Will see how busy it will be.

Can Mario gross at a SH movie level. Say 150m reals range.

R$150M would make it the highest grossing animated movie ever excluding The Lion King remake. We will get a better picture when we get the full weekend numbers, right now that seens like an overkill.

Mario opened to $6.9M (R$35M), yeah numbers from friday and foward really were gigantic. Excluding previews that is the 4th best animated opening ever, behind The Lion King remake, Frozen 2 and Toy Story 4, and all-time best for Illumination and a non-Disney animated movie.
