Mickey 17 || Warner || January 31, 2025 || Directed by Bong Joon Ho - Starring Robert Pattinson

They also have Barry Levinson's gangster drama in November, though I'm inclined to think that's another Live by Night.

Does have the Goodfellas/Casino writer though. I would guess it has a lower bar to get awards attention than Mickey17 does.

TBF most of what Bong has done aren't really awards movies. you can say he just wasn't on their radar pre-Parasite but I think if he had followed that up with Okja or Snowpiercer or The Host I don't think any of those would've got awards attention.

Not sure that mean much without Scorsese, though.

So...so...WB didn't think...the Parasite guy's next movie...had awards potential...and are now realizing...what is obvious to everybody? How does a company last for 100 years, but also be this stupid?

Answer is obvious: WB had good management for most of it's history, unlike the clowns who have been in charge for the last few years.

A studio is like a sports team:Only as good as the people working for it.

Idk if it'll get awards attention but I do agree this is probably to position it for a push

I can see it getting three or four nominations in the tech categories.

What do they mean by this?

Naomi Ackie can't catch a break. Don't know who she was in her previous life but how can one actress have such a bad karma? Cast in Star Wars so you think big break. But TROS was such (T)POS that they are unlikely to ever revisit her character. Then cast in GOT spinoff Blood Moon, but after HBO sunk 30M in the pilot, it got cancelled and locked in a vault that even GRRM never saw it. To add insult to the injury, the other spinoff HOTD took off spendidly. Lands the plum role as Whitney Houston only for Sony to dump the movie without much promotion even though Ackie got great reviews and they out it in the holiday season. And now this. :sadfleck:

I don't wanna be negative but this really give me a vibe that the movie is awful or meh?

This is something I would never expect from RP & BJH

could be a dud could just be a weird/not commercially friendly movie that WB doesn't know what to do with.

I get why Warner moved it to 2025 as they already have Dune II as a big award contnder + Joker and Furiosa as 2 pontential award contenders as well, but I dont get why they are realising it on January.
It could have been released on June 9, 2025 (with Cannes premiere) or August 2025

Your right but I find this baffling. Even if it's mediocre, I believe they could "Gatsby" it. I don't understand how the film couldn't be salvaged as a commercial film as long as everyone is willing to go along. I mean, the book it's being based on is basically a farce with extra quasi-time loop fun (and a great cast).  There's more to it than that but you should at least be able to pivot to that.
