Kind of surprised Maestro didn't win anything.
filmlover
Charles Melton going from Riverdale hunk to Oscar nominee within the span of just a few years is the kind of unlikely career narrative story I live for. Hope this is the first of many wins for Lily!

He tried too hard for the Oscar, he’s been blanking on awards. Directed, Produced, and stared in a black/white musical biopic. Looks like he ran through a checklist when he made it. stripe
I didn't expect Flowers to begin the race with such a bang! Also, May December could be a stronger contender than expected. More than Maestro snub, I am surprised with Poor Things lack of wins.

Joel M
I've been seeing a lot of positive vibes on my timeline about Holdovers. Still looks pretty unexciting to me but people seem to like it. If anything is gonna upset from the smaller films it gotta be this one winning screenplay, supporting and BP, in the usual underdog way. Otherwise I think it's Oppenheimer's to lose. If it's even winning critic groups, I don't see how the industry would be less excited for it.

My second favorite movie of the year behind Oppenheimer.

Being a feel-good drama, at least CODA was a cultural landmark whereas GB touches on racial relation.

Cmasterclay
In the ten film era, they usually miss 3-5 movies - they particularly love their big masculine epics by guys like Eastwood, so no stunner on Ferrari here. Now, AFI tomorrow? That'll capture 8 of the 10 nominees, I'd bet. Very predictive.
BestPicturePlutoNash
I think Air is pretty DOA even if it makes AFI. A big NBR miss, the lack of a major campaign, will be a struggle to make the SAG Ensemble and the Globe. Won't do well at BAFTA

All the buzz it had back in April is completely gone now.
