Bit unfortunate for gotg but within noise range. 33-35 a pretty decent hold

Figure this was expected and is still a good drop given Fast X will open to 65M+ and took all the PLFs. Hopefully closer to 35M this weekend for GotGV3 then I expect a very nice hold as it stabilizes to no longer having PLFs and has a holiday weekend. Then, should have a decent run from there with later legs.

Yeah following Guardians 2, vol 3 should do ~33M this weekend.

It could recover a bit on SAT / SUN tho so maybe it can reach 34-35 (fwiw, Guardians 2 did 34.6M on it’s third weekend with a 8.7M FRI)

The most important thing is that it survived the loss of premium screens, so it should keep strong going forward.

Guardians 2 did 88M after a virtually similar third weekend, which would put Guardians 3 at 355M. With good late legs, 365-375M is happening.

This.

I still think loss of PLFs has a bigger impact on the second weekend, which GOTG3 had the benefit of them for 2 full weeks.

I think we’ll be in for a lot of big second weekend drops this summer. Just like March.

Flash is the only major summer release that is going to have at least the majority of PLF screens for 2 weeks, even if not a full exclusive. Indy also gets them all for 10 days with MI7 now bumping up to a mid-week opening, and then its a going to be a mostly play-it-by-ear split screen scenario from Oppenheimer until Blue Beetle (Meg 2 may get the full slate for its OW, though not yet confirmed)

Elemental is taking a share of the non IMAX PLFs.

We’ll have some great stats proving what we’ve all been saying for ages about PLF mattering.  Release dates are huge in the summer, sure. But having PLF’s to yourself for more than a week is arguably even more important now.

How much money are these films losing by not being able to cater to audience demand through lack of PLF’s? We need them to be able to sustain more than one movie at a time.

The money being left on the table is significant and the one thing the business need to resolve quickly.

... hence why I said "majority of PLF screens".

But there's nothing new coming in week 2 to take over, so having ~75% of PLF shows for 2 weeks - or even 75/50 - is still better than a 100% opening exclusive and dropping to basically 0% in week 2, like Fast X and SpiderVerse are going to see

EARLY SATURDAY AM writethru after Friday late PM update: The Louis Leterrier-directed tenthquel’s Friday is hovering $28M, now 8% behind that of F9‘s for a slightly higher $66M-$67M start per industry estimates.

PostTrak is 82% positive with a 67% recommend for the general crowd while kids under 12 (is that the demo now for these movies?) rated it with 91% in the top two and a 62% recommend. Guy leaning at 58% with vibrant multi-diverse demos of 29% Latino/Hispanic, 22% Black, 19% Asian/other and 29% Caucasian. The 18-34 bunch is at 59%. South, South Central and West were the most robust.  All the PLFs and Imax are fueling over a third of the tenthquel’s gross so far. Top theater in the country? AMC Empire with close to $100K (plus early shows).
