Anyone who’s more tapped into the book world, what are some other recent hits that would be ripe for film adaptations?

I mostly only read fantasy, Fourth Wing was huge but isn’t that already being adapted by Amazon or something as a series? Brandon Sanderson’s stuff I’m not sure how well would translate to the screen, but even if it did I feel like a series would work better.

Hoover has quite a few hits. Lessons in Chemistry has already been adapted. John Green’s books have mostly all been adapted at this point.

The current literature landscape is so incredibly depressing tbh, bad writers like Sanderson and Hoover are able to become big names because they appeal to the most shallow people from their respective demographic.

What's not helping is that romance (as in porn) novels are what's become the most popular. The publishing industry got pushed really heavily into catering into that female demographic due to it primarily being ran by the same demo. So that's what we got.

The Oprah club isn't even really a thing anymore either, the last endorsement I remember from them was American Dirt which got so much controversy because it was written by a white woman.

I think Sanderson’s pretty good (for the most part). Haven’t read a Hoover book so I can’t comment but I’ve heard VERY mixed things lol.

Yes I do not know why they do it so early. But has been said over and again it does not affect the BO in any reasonable way from week to week.  It may be affecting it on the front end in that more people will get wise to it and not go at all but those people are not theater loving people in the first place probably who may not go anyway.

But we do know why.

Universal has 17 days window for <50 M opener and 30(31?) days if it's >50 M

The question is: when will this stupid practice end?

It's fine if you like Sanderson, but I wouldn't call him a good writer at all. Even on a basic level his syntax is often clunky.

We got this awesome piece because of him though https://www.wired.com/story/brandon-sanderson-is-your-god/

Barbie crossed exactly $1.03 billion after it's third weekend, having a domestic weekend of $53 million with a drop of 43%.

Deadpool will also be at $1.03 billion after it's third weekend, having a domestic weekend of $54+ million with a drop of 43-44%.

Barbie made $415 million worldwide after it's third weekend, while D&W needs $320 million to cross $1.35 billion, which i think it's more than doable. Passing Super Mario's gross of $1.362 billion would be a really good target.

I think WB is diluting and wasting George R. R. Martin potential for full blown films and I’m not sure if he sold all his rights to them, but Wild Cards is a series of books and comics that could be fun adapted to the big screen.

Books very much like comic books are always potentially great stories worth of adaptations to different mediums, the question is how they do it and if there is enough within the story being told to blow up. Barnes and Noble actually have a dedicated session to the most popular books on TikTok here:

Inside Out after its third weekend will potentially make 650m after its run is over. Maybe even 700m. Thats just insane legs

The ''Mistborn'' books were an absolute chore to read through. i don't usually read fantasy but i decided to give them a try after all the good things i heard about them, and take a detour from my usual reading habits. After the fiftieth ''Vin frowned'' in the first 200 pages, i couldn't believe this is the same Sanderson people rave about. He might be a good world builder but considering i don't really care much about that, all i can say is that i've read better prose on a milk carton.

Sony can't be serious with that Sunday drop? Anyway I was hoping IEWU to top 50m OW but turns out it is just way wat too female skewing to rise celling. 84% is simply too much, not even Crawdads (74%) and ABY (67%) were this high. It is clearly not a date-movie and more like lady night movie.

It's crazy to realize Disney will have 2 R rated movies topping the BO next weekend. What are we in the 80's and early to mid 90's when they released R rated movies through Touchstone and Hollywood Pictures.

30M OS debut for It ends with us without a lot of big markets. That's already almost 60% of where the crawdads sing OS Total. Definitely a global phenomenon and not local like that.

Could reach 250M global on a 25M budget. Prepare for the colleen Hoover movie invasion. She has already like 15 novels or more.

When the official numbers come out tomorrow IO2 should be past Barbie DOM and also past Jurassic World Cumulative at the same point (Day 59).

It's on track to pass JW Labor Day Weekend.
