Yeah.  It and Transformers are going to be really close in the end ($28-30 million).

In USD, Summer 2014 (July/August Releases) should be looking like...

$80 million or higher - Stand By Me, Doraemon

$63-65 million - Maleficent

$44-46 million - Ruroini Kenshin: The Great Kyoto Fire Arc

$35-37 million - Memories of Marnie

$30-32 million - Godzilla

$28-30 million - Transformers: Age of Extinction

$28-30 million - Pokemon XY: The Cocoon of Destruction & Diancie

$24-29 million - Lupin III

$23-25 million - Hot Road

$16 million - Edge of Tomorrow

$11-15 million - Lucy

$11 million - Say, "I Love You"

$10 million+

Lupin III and Lucy having just opened make their total range bigger than the rest which are most likely going to fall within the projected range (Doraemon aside, since it's hard to say how high it's going still).

He appears to be losing his star power.  Japan used to be his best market, but lately it's been ranking 3rd/4th best for his films.  Other markets are growing, which explains some of this, but it hasn't been an issue for Depp or Jolie films, which Japan has been the #1 country for them consistently in past and recent years.

Edge of Tomorrow outgrossed both Jack Reacher and Oblivion, though.

Weekend Ranking (08/30-31)

01 (01) Stand By Me, Doraemon (Toho) Week 4
02 (--) Lupin III (Toho) DEBUT
03 (--) Lucy (Toho-Towa) DEBUT
04 (02) Hot Road (Shochiku) Week 3
05 (03) Rurouni Kenshin: The Great Kyoto Fire Arc (Warner Bros.) Week 5
06 (04) Transformers: Age of Extinction (Paramount) Week 4
07 (07) Memories of Marnie (Toho) Week 7
08 (09) Pokemon XY: The Cocoon of Destruction & Diancie (Toho) Week 7
09 (05) Into the Storm (Warner Bros.) Week 2
10 (06) Maleficent (Disney) Week 9

>Stand By Me, Doraemon retains its hold atop the box-office for a 4th-consecutive week, and even increased by 9%.  It earned ¥519,995,800 ($5.1 million) with 380,005 admissions, making it the 6th biggest 4th weekend this decade (2010-) so far.  It's also just one of five blockbuster films (5 billion or more) to ever experience a 4th weekend increase, and actually the only one that wasn't assisted by a holiday or anything else.

After 24 days in release, it's now grossed ¥5.81 billion ($56.8 million) with 4.38 million admissions.  It is currently the 4th Highest-Grossing non-Ghibli/Disney animated film, but looks on track to rise to #1 on that chart as it doesn't look likely to finish under ¥7.5 billion ($75 million), and could go higher.

>Lupin III got off to a great start, taking in ¥444,121,700 ($4.3 million) with 335,148 admissions on 307 screens.  Unless its poor/mixed reviews have a negative impact on its box-office, it's likely to finish with ¥2.5-3.0 billion ($25-30 million) - very strong for a post-Summer film.

>Lucy debuted in 3rd place, earning ¥199,838,700 ($1.9 million) with 149,575 admissions on only 205 screens.  I didn't realize it was playing on so few screens (no dubbed versions), so this debut is great even if it came in below estimates.  And by comparison, since Scarlett Johansson is apart of the Avengers, her film beat the opening weekends of Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier on 1/3 of the screens.

>Hot Road continues to do well for Shochiku and became their highest-grossing film of the year so far, exceeding ¥1.6 billion ($15 million).  It'll have no problem reaching ¥2 billion+ ($20 million+), a milestone that is rather difficult for Shochiku.

"Meanwhile, Frozen is still showing in a few dozen theaters around the country, and its cumulative box office has now reached $244 million (¥25.44 billion - the recent weakening of the yen has reduced its total when converted into dollars.)" - THR

>Stand By Me, Doraemon saw a steep decline over the weekdays now that Summer Vacation is over, which indicates that despite its strong legs and wide-demographic appeal, it is still attracting a significant family audience.  But it didn't plummet the same way Pokemon or films that skew almost exclusively to families/children, so it's still going to show weekend strength throughout September.

>Non-Stop will likely debut with the normal low-profile action film in the mid-¥100 million ($1.5 million) range.

>In the Hero may be another live-action dud from Toei, but it is doing somewhat decent from what I can tell that it might come closer to ¥100 million ($1 million) than ¥50 million ($500,000).

Overall, drops tend to be a little rough this weekend since it's the first post-Summer, but unlike the last couple years where the 1st of Sept. (the 1st of every month is a discount day) fell on a weekend resulting in films dropping in the 40%+ range the following weekend, that shouldn't be the case this weekend since Sept. 1st was on a Monday, so weekend drops should be pretty standard (family/children films seeing the worst holds).

So this Pokemon movie definitely won't reach 3 billion now. First movie not to do so since 2002 I believe. Streak broken after 11 movies reaching the milestone. Doraemon is currently at 4 and Detective Conan at 7 (both ongoing).

Box-Office of Pokemon movie currently stands as follows:

Pocket Monster The Movie WY 2014 Toho ¥63,967,250 -14.9% 357 - ¥179,209 ¥2,738,843,909

By the week-end, the movie will most likely be at ¥2.9 Billion - it's going to be a very close call.

Nothing is confirmed... As previously discussed, Mojo uses the current weekend's exchange rate to convert the movie's overall gross into dollars. That is highly inaccurate since the exchange rate varies from day to day (and week to week). Sorry for saying this for the umpteenth time, I'm just spreading awareness to apparent newcomers.

That total is way off. :P  Don't use BOM for accurate figures.  It was at 2.67 billion last weekend.

~ Doraemon, $75 million (I hope it can reach $80 million, if at all possible with the school year starting)

~ Pokemon, $28 - 29 million ($30 million seems like a stretch now)

~ Marnie, $38 - 40 million

~ Maleficent, $65 - 66 million (Possibly less)

~ Godzilla, $31 million

- Doraemon, as it is already a huge hit will undoubtedly reach the $70 million mark and possibly the $75 million mark as well.  I'm hoping for a final gross of around $80 million.

- Pokemon seemed to rebound back a little but not enough to bring back it's $50 - 70 million years.

- Maleficent will likely reach $65 or $66 million by the end of the month.

- Marnie is, in terms of other Studio Ghibli films in the past, a Box Office Bomb.  Take into consideration the amount required to complete the film (Rumors have it that the last two films cost Studio Ghibli over $100 million USD), it's a failure.  However, it's still a visually stunning and an in-depth film like all other Studio Ghibli films.

- Godzilla had a "nice" run but it'll take a miracle for it to reach the $35 million threshold.
