03 (--) ¥130 million ($1.1 million), 0, ¥160 million ($1.3 million), Mortdecai (Kadokawa) NEW
04 (02) ¥126 million ($1.1 million), -39%, ¥530 million ($4.5 million), Joker Game (Toho) Week 2

10 (07) ¥32 million ($270,000), -43%, ¥930 million ($8.0 million), ST: Scientific Investigation Squad (Toho) Week 5

>Big Hero 6 is likely to win a 6th-consecutive week atop the box-office, and will come very close to exceeding ¥8 billion ($68 million) on Sunday.

>Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be the top debut this weekend, but it's not likely to challenge the #1 spot. Paramount has done an effective job at marketing the film, with even Megan Fox being there promoting it this past week, so it should post a respectable opening.

>Mortdecai should do alright in Japan, comparatively speaking, since Johnny Depp remains a big name (Japan continues to be his best/second best international market), but his star power is certainly dwindling with his recent releases. It's time for another Pirates/Alice.

>I'm not sure how to predict Mr. Children [Reflection], so I'm taking a guess here. Toho Cinemas gave it a very wide release, but the other chains didn't. And it's playing on just 95 screens, technically a limited release, making it more difficult to predict. I think it has potential to hit the Top 5, but it could easily land as low as 9th over the weekend (several films look to gross in the ¥100 million range this weekend).

Pretty good for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It could exceed ¥200 million ($1.7/1.8 million) this weekend. It was able to maintain, and improve upon, its lead over Big Hero 6 into the evening/night.

If it can make the race between itself and Big Hero 6 close on Sunday (Big Hero 6 plays very well on Sundays), it might have an outside shot of debuting at #1, though it'll still be an uphill challenge.

Also, not too bad for Mortdecai. It might open close to ¥150 million ($1.3 million) or so over the weekend with this Saturday figure, which could result in its final total in Japan challenging its final gross in the US.

Overall, looks to be a good Saturday all-around, but with last Sunday being greatly inflated from being the 1st (discount day), tomorrow's numbers will likely be quite harsh compared to last Sunday.

As expected, Sunday was much, much lower than last week, which resulted in some harsh weekend drops after last weekend's very strong holds. However, this weekend's drops shouldn't be quite as bad as those above. Last Sunday being a discount day greatly reduced the avg. ticket price for everything, so most films should improve a bit (5/10%) upon their admissions decrease here with their gross figures.

>Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Big Hero 6 are in a close race for the #1 spot. Big Hero 6 beat the Ninja Turtles on Sunday, but not by very much since the latter managed an increase, too.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles should have a higher avg. ticket price than Big Hero 6, so I'm thinking it managed to finally dethrone Baymax and co. and debut at #1. In admissions, they look to be maybe 10,000 or less apart based one incoming estimates.

>Mortdecai hasn't shown any sign of being disliked or frontloaded so far, and managed a slight increase on Sunday of its own. I'm thinking Japan could end up as its best overall market, ahead of the US's take, especially since it won't even gross $8 million in the US now.

I'll post the Weekend Estimates shortly.

Um, I would have two important questions. They may sound stupid, but it would be important.

1.How long a movie running in japanese cinemas? For example, how long will Parasyte Part 1 and Ao Haru Ride running in japanese cinemas?

2.I heard that there were some no refund incident. What cases are when there are no refunds?

How would you put Japan gross numbers into US numbers?  I once read a comment concerning this topic from Corpse but can't seem to find it.

~ By putting these numbers into the US domestic perspective, would that mean Frozen grossed $900 million US domestic from the Japan market if you use 4.5 as the multiplier?

07 (05) ¥86 million ($735,000), -44%, ¥7.38 billion ($63.0 million), Yo-Kai Watch: It's the Secret of Birth, Nyan! (Toho) Week 8

12 (08) ¥20 million ($170,000), -64%, ¥740 million ($6.3 million), Psycho-Pass: The Movie (Toho Video Division) Week 5

Unless the unreported chains strongly favored Big Hero 6, then Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has finally dethroned it.

>Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is estimated to have comfortably exceeded ¥200 million, which is higher than a lot of expectations. Paramount has managed to produce several unlikely hits over the past couple years, and this is yet another recent success story for them.

>Mortdecai also has a good debut, up 25/30% over last year's Transcendence based on estimates. If the number holds up, then it should be on track for ¥800 million ($7 million) or so, which puts it range to overtake its gross from the US in Japan. Japan continues to be a Johnny Depp stronghold.

>Mr. Children is a very rough estimate that's likely to change a lot tomorrow.
