JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW

I think Zootopia fans should be nervous about that number.

$4m OW means it is going to need a 15x multiplier, which will be difficult, to get to $1 billion.

I actually am pretty nervous about Zootopia's $1 billion chances.

However, combined with the legs in North America, it think it has a shot. And it's not like Zootopia is a stranger to large multipliers. Also, the Japanese audiences online seem to recognize Zootopia as something really special.

Zootopia will be in competition next weekend with Captain America CW. I wonder if super hero movies (Marvel, DC...) are popular in Japan...

Not that popular, actually. The latest Captain America might make ¥700 million on its first weekend in Japan.

I think 1 billion is almost dead.

The only 2 markets it underperformed my expectations are Japan and the U.K.  Japan still has a shot but I don't see signs of a breakout.

Anyway, it's going to finish just ahead of DM2 WW and International number and right around Minions domestic.

Pretty awesome for an original animation.

ZOOTP had a 6.6m Dom weekend, 6.8m OS-Japan weekend and 4m Japan weekend.

It's on 907m WW.

Will add ~20m more Dom and ~20m more OS-Japan for 947m.

Needs 53m more from Japan for a total of 57m including the 4m OW.

So multiplier of 14.25x (57/4).

If it can do 22-23m Dom and 22-23m OS-Japan, leaving 47-49m more from Japan (51-53m total; multiplier of 12.75-13.25x), 1b is possible.

As much as I would love to see Zootopia crossing $1B worldwide, I have a strange feeling that it will be tough.

The movie grossed already 907$ million, which is obviously very good, but it has already been released for at least a month or 2 in all the countries around the world, with a few exceptions like the U.K., New Zealand or Israel. Of course, Zootopia can add a few more millions WW but probably not that much. Japan is one of the last markets so basically, it will have to perform very well. I bet that it should make at least $80 million there to make sure to hit $1 billion ww.

Anyway, go Zootopia!

$80M is too much. Domestic still has about $20M and OS market witout Japan still has $15M which will put zootopia stand at $942M ( $4M from Japan ). So it needs at least $62M from Japan alone

I think I found a Japanese movie review site that has more traffic than yahoo movies.

https://filmarks.com/detail/60103

Huh, that site has almost the exact same numbers for practically every movie, including Frozen (horrible) and Spirited Away (middling). The latter one is especially surprising considering it's the highest rated animation of all time in IMDB. Personally I prefer Yahoo's rating system with its five-category breakdown.

weekend actuals:

Conan ¥679M/522K

Zootopia ¥446M/329.5K ADM

Revenant ¥179M/133k

So Zootopia had 63% adm in Usual Location and a 1,355 average ticket price while Conan 58% / 1,300

Zootopia Monday should be 54MYen (0,48M$), very weak.

I am sorry for veering a bit off the topic but I have a question regarding the BO Mojo and the-numbers.com websites.

Basically, I see a difference in numbers for Zootopia in some countries in these two links:

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=intl&id=disney2016.htm

http://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Zootopia#tab=international

For example in Russia: Zootopia grossed $33,799,743 as of 4/17/16 in the Mojo website. But in the-numbers website, Zootopia grossed $30,442,584 as of 4/20/2016 (it doesn't seem logic).

Is it me or is there something wrong with one of the two websites? Thanks for any clarification.

I'm a pretty big fanboy.  but who knows who's the bigger one. I've seen the movie 14 times in theaters and I never got bored every time. But that shouldn't qualify me as a bigger fanboy. There are many factors really but I'd being veering off-topic if I continue :P

Holy sh**! 14 times! And I though that my 8 times were already big lol. I don't know who holds the world record but I think you are a good contender ^^

I think it depends on how the exchange rate is applied: if it is calculate week by week or re-calculate entirely every week

Look at this for Star Wars VII in UK:

Boxofficemojo: United Kingdom    12/17/2015    $50,686,789       $174,740,270    4/17/16

The NUmbers: United Kingdom    12/17/2015    $50,726,098       $183,782,791    4/20/16

BOM use the last exchange rate to recalculate the entire gross:

This is the weekly gross of Frozen in UK on BOM: it was re-released in nov 2014 and added 278K$ but the total gross was 1,6M$ lower. This because the ER was different (lower) between Jun and Nov 2014

May 30–Jun. 1 28       $12,043    +139.2%     16 -1    $753     $65,715,897    26
Jun. 6–8 39 $4,224 -64.9% 11 -5 $384 $65,720,121    27
Nov. 28–30 7 $278,488 - 398 - $700 $64,134,411    52
Dec. 5–7 13 $172,777 -38.0% 401 +3 $431 $64,063,498    53
Dec. 12–14 14 $104,763 -39.4% 293 -108 $358 $64,733,660    54

There's a Korean person who had seen the movie 57 times by April 10, which given South Korea's release date works out to once a day since it came out.
