Well, not an impressive weekend. I couldn't find a previous Pretty Cure film that ever debuted at #1, so that's pretty telling here. Granted... this is one of the better openings in the 30 film overall series in recent years, but this usually isn't enough to take the #1 spot. Good for it and the franchise thought to have what I believe is their first #1 debut!

Also... the holdovers largely disappointed over the weekend with four films dropping over 40% and the best hold only at 34%. This time of year is weak, the weakest of the year, but still rough to look at!

>Tropical-Rouge! Precure the Movie: The Snow Princess and the Miraculous Ring, the 30th film in the overall Pretty Cure film franchise, debuted atop the box-office to become the first in the franchise to ever do so as mentioned above. This crossover film sold a solid 141,071 admissions over the weekend across 237 screens. This is about the average in the franchise opening weekend range, but it is higher than many in more recent years (e.g. it's up a very impressive 47% over the last film back in the Spring).

>Baragaki: Unbroken Samurai had a very rough second weekend hold, but thanks to some solid weekdays (8% less than its opening weekend), its two-week total is a little more respectable. Still, this drop rules out it coming near ¥1.5 billion now, and it'll likely settle for around ¥1.2 billion ($10/11 million) or so. Not a disappointing result, but certainly below expectations given its cast and marketing. Maybe some interest was lost since it was delayed for, I think, a full year or more due to COVID.

>No Time to Die held alright, but again, these mid-30% drops are just average and quickly lowers the ceiling when they're happening every weekend. Good news: It outgrossed Quantum of Solace already and will surpass Casino Royale next weekend.

>Dune also had a rough second weekend, and combined with meh weekdays, any very small chance it may have had at reaching ¥1 billion are gone. It's probably going to be lucky to reach ¥700 million ($6-6.5 million).

>Masquerade Night was never really able to achieve the holds it was needing in order to reach ¥4 billion, and the drop this weekend rules that milestone out now. It's still going to finish strong, likely above F9: The Fast Saga, with around ¥3.7 billion ($33/34 million) and finish in 8th for 2021.

>Ron's Gone Wrong rounds out the Top 10, bombing pretty spectacularly. It sold just 28,899 admissions over its first three-days in release on 370 screens. It wasn't going to do well or anything, but this is another very, very bad result caused by the ongoing day-and-date release issue in the market this year.

>Free! The Final Stroke - Part 1 fell outside the Top 10, but given its great hold this weekend and because we have some Kyoto Animation fans here, I'm going to provide an estimate for its updated total when I update the Top Grossing Films: 2021 chart after this post!

SC and BW didn't break even ¥1B ($10M) ????

What is hope for Eternals in Japan lol. Japan doesn't like Western Superhero movies in general but this movie is quite different from other previous Marvel movies with more asthetic and romance aspect.

Actually, Black Widow could have cross ¥1B but due to Disney+ Premium Access, two major theatre chain boycotted it's release. On the other hand, Disney/Marvel no longer has any hold in the country (excluding the Spider-Man &Venom). Eternal should try ¥1.5B but it's ranking will be included in 2022 as Japanese Eiren/Oricon Yearly analysis ended on November. Important thing, it's a market dominate by Anime and Live-action. I suggest Disney to bring movie like Luca or similar to Frozen &Aladdin to reclaim box office (¥10B+ /$88M+)

¥1B =$8.8M-$9M.

Sadly Luca was released directly to Disney plus, however I heard many people watched it bc it reminded to Ghibli

Luca could have performed equal to Frozen &Aladdin here. Unfortunately, Disney+ shattered everything. I forgot about Soul too.

(If released)

Luca Forecast was above ¥5B.

Soul Forecast was above ¥7B
