But this is supposed to be about Japan.

This is about whether or not Japan's total will push Zootopia over $1 billion, and the other markets are part of that equation.

Keep in mind that Angry Birds is probably going to fuck up Ratchet and Clank even harder.

This is supposed to be about Japan.

There is no connection between the the total OS number and the individual country numbers. The total OS number comes from the studios themselves, while the individual country numbers come from a bunch of different local sources not related to the studio, these sources tend to come in local currency which BOM converts in a poor way. This means that you can't take the country dollar totals as exactly accurate, but the total OS numbers should be fine.

Thanks. I figured as much about the exchange rates.

Back to Japan, Zootopia at 2pm has higher admission than the same point on its first Tuesday two weeks ago, so that's promising.

A lot of rough drops this weekend, but post-Golden Week considered, these aren't too bad.

>Zootopia claims its first weekend atop the box office over its third weekend in release, and did so by delivering an excellent post-Golden Week hold. Disney's latest hit film sold an additional 288,041 admissions over its third weekend in release, bringing its three week admissions above 2.3 million.

It should be evident now that it's going to survive post-Golden Week, and even if its weekday business is slow, it's likely to have a long run due to its staying power over the weekends. A total north of ¥4 billion ($35 million+) is certainly happening now, and its chances of reaching the ¥5 billion ($45 million+) blockbuster milestone are very good. Walt Disney Animation continues their huge winning streak in the market, and have been beating Pixar consistently now for the past three years.

>Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare gets dethroned after enjoying three-consecutive weeks atop the box office, dropping 50% over the post-Golden Week holiday period, but it has so much to celebrate it doesn't matter what happens from here on out. The 20th anniversary releasesold a further 209,805 admissions in its fourth weekend of release, bringing its four week admissions up to early 4 million admissions!

The 20th entry in the Detective Conan franchise became the highest-grossing, and most-attended, film in the series history prior to the weekend, and became the first film in the franchise to exceed the ¥5 billion ($45 million+) blockbuster milestone as well. There's nothing more for it to really achieve at this point other than to continue adding onto its incredible figures over the next several weeks; aiming for a total above the ¥6 billion ($55 million+) milestone now.

>Captain America: Civil War sees the expected large decline the superhero genre is known for, but it also managed the standard superhero drop over the post-Golden Week holiday frame, making its drop better in comparison with pretty much every non-Spider-Man film in the market.

The third entry in the Captain America series is outpacing Iron Man 3 by about 11% after two weeks in release, and as long as it can maintain that distance (or obviously not lose), it'll go on to earn around ¥2.8 billion ($26 million) or so; making it the highest-grossing non-Spider-Man/Avengers film in Japan. Oh yeah, it's looking at a possible 400% increase over Captain America: The Winter Soldier (and 700% increase over the original film) as well. #Spider-ManEffect

>64: Part 1 delivers a somewhat surprising debut, selling 203,703 admissions over the weekend across 319 screens. This latest film in one of Japan's most popular genres (Police Dramas), starring Koichi Sato, will definitely become another ¥1 billion ($10 million+) earner for the year, and perhaps even come near ¥1.5 billion ($14 million). Not bad; not bad at all given the post-Golden Week openers rarely make an impact.

>Road to High & Low settles for fifth place by selling 92,757 admissions on just 141 screens over the weekend. The film serves as a previews of the upcoming High & Low: The Story of S.W.O.R.D. opening in July; Exile Tribe's theatrical release that's apart of their multi-media campaign "High & Low".

After this weekend's updated results, I'm pretty convinced we could need at little as $50M from Japan to pass $1B. Even a bit less, considering Turkey's got a decent chance of chipping in $3M or so. So question is - how likely is $50M from Japan at this point? What's the range of what we can expect from Japan? Is it still hard to tell?

I'd say it has a very good chance. Its post-GW hold was exceptionally good. No competition until July too, I think.

you mean $50M from now on or $50M total when it's all said and done?

Alright, it's 10PM, or 22:00 in Japan right now, so the numbers aren't going to change by much.

 *1 *17897 64-ロクヨン-前編 (64 Prequel)
 *2 *15901 ズートピア (Zootopia)
 *3 *15694 シビル・ウォー キャプテン・… (Captain America 3)

This is a 7.1% increase from two weeks ago for Zootopia.

Women's discount Wednesday is going to be crazy.

Through three weeks after being released at identical times of the year, Zootopia is tracking incredibly closely to Cinderella, with slightly better legs:

    Zootopia   Cinderella
1st weekend   $3,988,949   $4,644,304
2nd weekend   $13,531,841   $16,179,879
3rd weekend   $27,896,906   $28,198,704

Cinderella made $19 million after its third weekend. Reaching $50 million means doing about 16% better than Cinderella the rest of the way. Of course, Cinderella had far less competition, as it remained in first place in admissions on Mimorin for 31 straight days.

Zootopia just overtook 64 in terms of tickets sold around 20 minutes ago,

now the numbers are:

[順位] [販売数] [映画作品タイトル名]
 *1 *20198 ズートピア
 *2 *19610 64-ロクヨン-前編
 *3 *10684 シビル・ウォー キャプテン・…
 *4 *10522 名探偵コナン2016 純黒の…
 *5 **4932 ちはやふる~下の句~
 *6 **4264 アイアムアヒーロー
 *7 **3886 レヴェナント 蘇えりし者
 *8 **3562 ROAD TO HiGH&L…
 *9 **2955 テラフォーマーズ
 10 **2470 劇場版 遊☆戯☆王 THE …
[2016/05/11 16:53 更新]

for Monday and Tuesday,
Zootopia started both days with a 6K deficit against 64 by noon, and ended the day with a 2K deficit.
But for today (Ladies' Day), Zootopia took over 64 at 16:30

Seems like Zootpia will only lose the number 1 spot unless its a typical weekday with no special promotions... even then it's a close loss at number 2

The legs on Zootopia are looking pretty good at the moment and it will have a good chance to even the ticket sold compared to the first Wednesday today (27,452)

What? In 2015 there were Conan, Dragonball and Furous 7 other the "Shinchan" movie that have earned 95M$ over the GW, This year Conan, Civil war, Shinchan and I am a hero did 88M$. Plus, among new openers, 2015's Biri Gal was at the samne level of 64 part 1.

I don't understand if this thread is still a boxoffice numbers discussion or it is just become a Zootopia fansite.

Then you would have really been annoyed by Frozens Japanese run.

I think it's completely understandable.  You have a movie making a run at 1 billion, which is fairly rare, and it has all come down to Japan.

There are also a lot of people who really love this movie and Jspan is the only place left that it's Box Office number is still interesting.

You'll have your turf back in about two months, so don't you worry.

This confirm my "Fansite" teory

A Fan site is, literally, a place where you can say any nonsense without anyone you gonna make you notice. Of course, if someone does, the typical reaction is the offense, because it is the only possible answer.
