Phil in the Blank

Unpopular movie opinions.

Recommended Posts

Steven Spielberg is super overrated  and many of his films are actually really boring. such as Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones, which are really good films but not the phenomena that many think. E.T. Jaws, Lincoln, The Terminal, War of the World, and Catch me if you can. which are O.K. but frankly kind of boring. and Hook which is down right bad.

Saving Private Ryan, Close Encounters of the third kind And War Horse are pretty much his only films that live up to the hype.

Tobey Maguire is not the best Spider-Man and nor Andrew Garfield. In fact, I'd say neither capture the character completely. They capture different parts of his personality better than the other. Maguire captures the geeky aspect of Peter very well while Garfield captures the cocky aspect of Spider-Man very well. If I had to choose, I'd say neither of them.

Actually, I do kind of agree. Though I still prefer Tobey over Garfield, parts of TASM2 (the opening action scene, for example) are some of the closest we've ever gotten to Spidey's comics personality in live-action. And I say that not even liking the movie as a whole.

Well... If you base that off which one was closer to the comics yeah I guess that works.

But honestly ignoring comics Toby gave better performances and played a better character than Garfield did.

I'm still rooting for Holland. Great actor and I can safely say that I trust he will give us the best Spidey yet.

I actualy like the spiderman reboot much more than the originals that I found boring and visualy totaly bad (I am sure it was amazing when they came out and started the new era of SH) but still can't denie they look bad now and I can't watch SH or fanasy movies if the CGI is shitty.

The Firm and Clear and Present Danger are two of the best blockbusters of the 90s

The Firm is utter rubbish. Slowest, dullest two and a half hours of my life. Even mighty TC can't make it watchable, which is a genuine achievement.

Arabian Nights Trilogy, Tree of Life and American Hustle are my favorite films since 2010.

PS, If you are someone who likes pensive world-film, Arabian Nights is a masterpiece. It is a 6 and a half hours long reflection on the Portugal people and conditions. It combines documentary, narrative and surrealism to paint some really incredible images. Many people dislike the third volume because it is beyond slow, but I found it lovey through and through.

My favorite film of TIFF followed by Davies' Sunset Song and Sorrentino's Youth. We'll see if these last 14 films change that!
