Mojoguy
I hate to say this but this looks too weird for families. Could do well with teens and adults who want that nostalgia itch scratched though. Edited August 5 by Mojoguy

I showed it to my one year old niece, and it was also my dad (her Grandpa)'s first watch. It brought all three generations together. Other than the snake scene she really enjoyed it. AniNate
The first one got a post-Temple of Doom PG, and there was a fairly popular cartoon in the early 90s so there is definitely something of a kiddish appeal to the whole IP. Certainly if Deadpool & Wolverine is attracting kids I don't think this is any more of a stretch. Edited August 5 by AniNate 2
eddyxx
Does anyone know if they are using claymation for this movie? I hope so.

Certainly if Deadpool & Wolverine is attracting kids I don't think this is any more of a stretch. It's Deadpool, kids have fallen in love with his films. R rating just makes kids want to see his films more. Entire families are taking young kids to see it since they trust in the MCU. Beetlejuice might as well be a new IP for them, it's more mom and dad's IP, which might make them reluctant to see. This film is going have to really depend on WOM. They mollycoddle. “Ebony is not seeing that, it’s too scary! She’ll need a safe space” etc etc lol 33 minutes ago, Jonwo said: When has Beetlejuice ever been a family movie? Here in the UK: always. Used to watch this on a loop as a child with Edward Scissorhands, Batman Returns, Little Mermaid, My Girl etc. Edited August 5 by Krissykins

filmlover
It's likely a very light PG-13 like the recent Ghostbusters movies have been and families have made up a decent portion of the audience for those. That seems like the type of demo they're going for with this. Edited August 5 by filmlover
Human
Well the recent Ghostbusters movies are dark, but they keep the darkness family friendly.
AniNate
It does have a pretty wordy rating description, though I just saw Return of the King live and that had "macabre and bloody images" too

JonathanMB
That PG rating for the original is still wild even by 1988 standards, considering it has an f-bomb. But yeah that movie is still a classic trotted out every Halloween. Ghostbusters is a pretty good comparison point, it's not a Family Film exactly but I imagine any goth/emo millennial parents will eagerly take their kids to see this.
