Wow, looking at BOM's #s it seems I blinked and missed Unbroken and Into The Woods runs in SK.  I'm surprised Woods didn't do better since musicals seem to do well, but then it's a dark one at the end so maybe that's why WOM didn't seem to kick in for it at all.

BH6 - looking promising like the other Asian markets it's opened in.

You're probably right about Into the woods. It has a very low rating of 4.80/10 on Naver and many people mentioned that it wasn't suitable for children so it lost family sized audiences too. It didn't help that the musical numbers weren't well received either.

Introducing...Gangnam Blues

movie_image.jpg?type=m665_443_2movie_image.jpg?type=m665_443_2

Synopsis

In the 1970s, during the height of political corruption, Gangnam, the southern part of Seoul is starting to be transformed into a developed area. Childhood friends Jong-dae and Yong-ki strugglei to get by, until their shanty homes are demolished by local thugs. Desperate for cash, they get involved in violent political clashes, and are separated during one of the skirmishes. Three years later, Jong-dae lives as an honest man with former gang leader Kil-su. Meanwhile, Yong-ki has joined Seoul's most powerful criminal organization, the Myeongdong-pa. As a gangster, Yong-ki is entangled in a high-stakes battle over land in Gangnam, all in the name of putting together secret presidential election funds that drive up the value of the city. As the gangs fight over the rights to various plots of land, Yong-ki is captured and interrogated by a rival gang.

Gangnam Blues (강남 1970) is a noir action film written and directed by director Yoo Ha and is the third film in the street trilogy, the first two films of which are Once upon a time in high school(말죽거리 잔혹사) and A dirty carnival (비열한 거리). It's not a trilogy in the sense that the stories are linked, rather Gangnam Blues takes the setting of the first film and the main theme of "desire" from the second to create a finale to the trilogy.

Is that good for Bh6. i guess its gonna be more a sat/sun movie.

No not really good at all. Presales suggest it could indeed be a weekend based film or a WoM driven movie that increases in subsequent weeks though.

ㅇit's just a preview number.

it isn't released for real til tomorrow.

today was its official opening day.

That really seems weak for BH6. How is it in comparison to Penguins of Madagascar?

did it change? as the poster I'm looking at says it opens tomorrow.

even though I've just seen it.

I think so. All the big portal sites and Kobis has it as a 21st of January release. Probably had Gangnam blues in mind when they made the change.

Ok.

Anyhow, the double bill of Nig Hero and John Wick was probably the most fun I've had in a cinema in a long time. Both films were pretty awesome.

Big Hero only had 4 other people, but it was the 4D3D showing at 10:30pm (I hate 4D btw but it was the only option) and there was really very little reason to watch it in this format so maybe the 2D and earlier showings are a lot more popular.

John Wick had 20 people come to the 1:20am showing which surprised me, that's one of the busiest post midnight crowds I've experienced. People there seemed to enjoy the film though. Only confusing thing for me was most of the pre-film adverts were for cosmetics and plastic surgery clinics that made me think I'd walked into a showing of Working Girl by mistake until the film started (did that film just flat out bomb btw? saw posters for it everywhere but its not in the top 5 it seems.)

lol nice. I think your BH6 showing kind of shows it's more children-orientated at the moment who of course, wouldn't be watching a 10:30pm showing. The current breakdown for BH6 is like this.

  • 4D dubbing: 3.3%
  • Digital: 27.3%
  • 4D: 4.6%
  • 3D digital: 2.0%
  • Digital Dubbing: 47.3%
  • 3D dubbing: 5.4%
  • IMAX 3D: 10.7%

The high dub rate probably indicates a larger audience of children, unlike frozen which had a higher subtitle showing rate. Hopefully word of mouth builds for it.

I'm glad you liked John Wick, I'm going to see it during the weekend. And yeah, most of the advertisements seem to be related to smartphones, plastic surgery and telecommunications etc. As for Working girl, the lead actress is probably one of the most hated women in the country right now (probably on the level of that "nut rage" korean airlines exec) and it looked like a pretty crap film from the start so yeah it's bombing.

Foxcatcher, yes. It says it's going to  be released on February 5. It probably won't do very well at the box office.

thx for the info

I didnt want to post it elswhere until I 100% knew its not written in Japanese or chinese flowers.gif

yep I know it would not make much money (the awards & critic raves is enough for me :) )

btw watched "Cold eyes" yesterday

OKish movie I guess but I wasnt that involved in evens of it though the main girl's relationship with her mentor was pretty great

Btw can ppl here post some recs like their top fav 10 of Korean movies or somthing? I really lag behind on these
