Bob Violence
I don't think that film is so much well known property OS as some believe.I think it's fair to say a good chunk of the Chinese moviegoing audience is faintly aware of the original movie but has never actually seen it. The big Chinese movie sites (Douban, Mtime) have far fewer user ratings for it than they do for Gone with the Wind or even Waterloo Bridge (which is more of a classic in China than in the U.S.). It certainly isn't the universal-ritualistic experience it is in the U.S. I don't think the books are that popular either, unlike Alice. I'm betting South Korea is similar. I'm not saying it won't do well in China--I have no idea--but the Oz name doesn't mean so much. Edited March 7, 2013 by Bob Violence

PatrickvD
This is way too appealing to only do John Carter numbers.
ChD
This is way too appealing to only do John Carter numbers. Agreed... 450M I say. With a healthy 200M domestic, it should do a decent profit.
htall90
Yh I thought it was a bit early to write it of with John carter or jtgs numbers.

IndustriousAngel
I have to say sales haven't picked up ... today's opening night, but even the 20:00 show looks only about 10% full atm (it's 18:00 now) ... rather awful but really, let's wait - it's a family film after all, no rush factor. Robertron
Korea: OD:19,301 admissions. Good god that is horrible. I really hope it doesn't flow like that to all markets :/
Robertron
Something tells me Oz didn't do that great here. We would've have numbers by now from THR or Deadline :/
bballman24
My Hong Kong friends didn't know much about Oz, and when I went to see it yesterday in Mongkok, only 7 seats filled in a rather big screen.

druv10
So its officially a worldwide bomb ? Seriously? We've yet to have any numbers from big markets and already a WW bomb is in discussion with you. Remember LOP, you were calling it a bomb and 600M later, it's all history.

druv10
But we do have bad news from quite several different markets .... True but I would wait until Sunday before calling it a bomb. That way we'll have domestic as well as OS numbers.

IndustriousAngel
At my theater, H&G (week2) has stronger presales than Oz, although Oz occupies the biggest screen. This doesn't look good at all, if there are not very strong afternoon walk-ins, Oz might miss #1 (which I had thought was a sure thing).
