Star Trek 2 OS thread

If this can double internationally, I'd consider it great step forward. Especially since its only the second movie after a reboot of a franchise with major baggage.. In a way it's a breakout and the sequel if done correctly could finally see OS > DOM.

Is not it slow ... takes two sequels to achieve AS > DOM in modern world ?

For Trek I think it is.  Apart from Paramount, which apparently sucks OS, ST has a lot of baggage from previous films and TV series.  It has a very long history.  Modern audiences have a picture of Trek in their heads already and it'll take a while to break that perception.  Besides the prior films have been OS weaklings so it's hard to expect it to do 500+ in one shot.

As many have mentioned before, SH films had lots of opportunities to break that image, and TA + TDKR finally shattered that image.  I'd just have a little more patience with ST and the third times the charm with a lot of franchises.

MEXICO: 'Star Trek: Into Darkness" Disappoints in Debut

Star Trek: Into Darkness performed below expectations in Mexico last weekend, grossing $2.6 million for the second spot in the top ten. Iron Man 3retained the number one position with a $3.5 million weekend and a $42.3 million cume. Unsurprisingly, releasing the Star Trek sequel on Mother's Day weekend at the heels of Iron Man 3 was probably not the best plan from Paramount's strategic overseas roll-out.

Awesome, thanks for the update from Indonesia. I never understood why the common theme here was Asian markets wouldn't make more then the first.

given their growth it was obvious, and the intense marketing campaign.Asia and latin america will grow a lot.but expect a weak growth in Europe, apart from Russia.

-0.4m in UK, -0.4m in Mexico, -0.2m in Australia.

1 million less compared to estimates only in those 3 markets.

What estimate for Australia?  There are never estimates.  Only actuals.
