TDKR Weekend: $160.89M - #3 ALL TIME HIGHEST OW

Recommended Posts

I still don't understand, why reporting numbers is a bad thing? If WB wants to help the Aurora fans heal, how about sending Bale in as Batman. (JackO's idea) That would help lift the mood up.

Sensationalist media is to blame. If WB continued to release numbers like normal, the media would somehow find a way to spin this as evil.

This is not true. TDKR could go as high as 220M. It does seem some people chose to stay home on Friday, afraid they would get shot...I doubt this incident will affect grosses in the long run though. Americans may be shoked now, but it will only take a couple of day for them to move on. People who're too scared to visit a theater now, will see it next weekend.

Of course, there is the possibility that the people skipping it now don't go next weekend either if they hear mixed WOM about the movie (I heard some people last night complaining Batman wasn't in it enough and Bane was a weak villain). TDKR could lose those customers forever. It sucks that Batman will forever be associated with this tragedy, but respect for the victims is more important than stupid box office numbers.

Story just popped, couple of the survivors bought tickets to finish the movie to show support for the people that got killed in Colorado. This is how you show cowards that they won't win by killing innocent people. Hopefully, more people will show similar courage and not let the lunatic win. :bravo:

Woudn't this hurt WB as a company not to report these numbers until Monday for its stock price? You guys think they consider this option?(I have not read the entire thread if this topic was brought it up)

DeadlineI’m told there are a lot of admissions still to count, but The Dark Knight Rises looks to be in the $70 million range Friday – give or take a few million here or there – from 4,404 domestic theaters. That’s the 5th all-time opening day. Look for a huge drop Saturday because of the $30.6M in midnight shows, including $2.2M IMAX grosses. (Previous installment The Dark Knight dropped -29% its Saturday, and this should be no different.) My sources say the 3-day weekend cume looks to be in the $165M range with the caveat that the Colorado tragedy may have an impossible-to-predict effect. This will be the largest grossing 2D North American opening weekend ever, past 2008′s The Dark Knight at $158M. However, despite the “like nothing ever happened” box office momentum which Warner Bros saw Friday morning, it is clear that The Dark Knight Rises numbers won’t be record-breaking. Yes, because of pre-sales, midnights shattered the $18.4M midnights generated by Marvel’s The Avengers earlier this summer. But it didn’t beat Avengers‘ $80.5M Friday and won’t beat Avengers‘ all-time $207.4M collected from 2D, Digital 3D, RealD, and IMAX 3D theaters.
