May I remind you that Avatar held the top spot in 2009 until 2014.

Avatar performed better than any other film in Chinese cinema if you take into account the size of Chinese cinema in 2009 and the 1month cap.

Pre-sales for Wed.

The Great Wall 6.35M (-10%)
Hacksaw Ridge 1.43M (-9%)

The Wasted Times 1.31M (-13%)

Your Name 0.47M (-10%)

Hope HR can get 5% or more showtimes on Friday, if so it will have strong possibility to reach 350M/$50M here.

$50 million from China for Hacksaw Ridge would be fantastic, and totally unexpected.

First look at Journey to the West 2:

Stephen Chow seems to have struck a deal with IMAX for the movie to get priority screening so that should help with box office numbers. With the Chinese box office slowdown and Valentine's day being more than two weeks away from the first day of Chinese New Year, this is probably not gonna make Mermaid numbers but it will still be huge.

Journey to the West 2  v The Great Wall : Who will gross more?   Any insights from y'all?  Currently, I bet on Chow.

JTTW2 will gross more. The question is how much more it will gross considering the stagnancy of the market nowadays.

His old movies were really good. Shame that the same man who made Hero made something like TGW...
