In 2016 the Ch and Dom legs seem to mirror each other very nicely across all the 4 movies (DP and SS did not release in China).

Movie     China OW      China Total     Ch Multi   Dom Multi

BVS      $55,739,150   $95,769,365       1.72x      1.99x

CA3      $93,640,448   $180,794,517     1.93x      2.28x

APOC    $59,587,048   $120,765,095     2.03x      2.36x

DR.S     $43,666,292   $109,194,913     2.50x      2.74x

I don't know why SMH would do only 1.65x.

Thanks. Xmen did better than expected considering it came out like 4 days before Warcraft, if I remember. Its a good thing Dark Phoenix does not have to deal with Mulan next year.

BVS legs though .... Justice league won't have legs that bad... I think.

If JL opens to $60m compared to BVS's $55.7m, then even SMH like 1.65x takes it to almost ~$100m total. Won't be surprised if something like that happens. Though don't know if November/December show better legs in China like they do Dom. Doc Strange did do 2.50x in November in China.

Interesting BO stat: For the first time since they were released on the same day more than two months ago, THE FOUNDING OF AN ARMY will outgross* WOLF WARRIORS II today.

Sparkle Roll (Jackie Chan-Qi Jianhong's company, agent of luxury brands such as Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Parmigiani, Burberry in China.)
Da Di
Bona
Stellar Megamedia (Xing Mei, s-o-e)

are the four operators who like to fudge.

But when China Film fudges, it is on another level...

Openers actually all have decent to very good WOM, very rare for any holiday slot. They just don't produce.

I don't agree though. Donnie Yen/Andy Lau's movie has incredible word of mouth but is restricted by the showtimes.... Wanda and the big boys give it bad timings and small theaters. I think with more showtimes it can gross 5yi.

Its marketing barely started 3 weeks back and it had literally 0 hype.

Showtimes are enough. PSA on Sat was 30 people, lower than Never Say Die. 500m is still possible as it seemingly has the the best WOM (not that big an advantage). But 500m is nothing to jump up and down about, for Yen, Lau and Wang. no?

Not sure why is Never Say Die doing so well.. comedy is easier on the whole family maybe.

But if Chasing the Dragon hits 500m, a big IF. Well I think will make the 3 of them very happy. This film is almost literally a full HK film base on genre, it's not a HK gangster fighting film like SPL, just a pure gangster triad film.

Plus the film barely confirmed its release date 1 month ago, with almost no time to market, squeezing into a very crowded place (before 2 films shifted dates).

Donnie Yen having a non action movie that gross 500m yuan, Wong Jing with a film rated 9 on Maoyan and above 7 at Dou ban and Lau having a film over 400m yuan... I think they will all be smiling.

Well we have seen cop thrillers like Cold War 2 and Line Walker doing 600m+. The ceiling for this genre I think should be abround 1B at the moment. Let's see if CW3 or LW2 can get there.

Nevertheless, 500m is a very good result. Problem of Lau is that he just appears in too many crap movies, making himself a semi-box office poison.
