Why do people dislike TDKR?

Recommended Posts

It was not really plot holes. It more like plot devices that really did not serve a purpose...

i agree they are not plot holes. But they did serve a purpose. Every plot device has been explained numerous times; its reason and consequence. If it wasnt, well its not that hard to piece it altogether.Just a few people going on and on about this. They just not satisfied with the answers because they dont care. Simple as that.

Prisoners: Deshi Deshi Basara Basara!

Bruce: What does that mean?

Prisoner: Zero Oscar nominations

Yeah, I know, I'm kinda sad.

Wait for all the Marvel fanboys to spew shit about it...

No, seriously, baumer or Shawn or anybody, lock the thread. The Nolan fanboys and the Marvel fanboys are shitting all over each other like pigeons. I will say this right now; I loved both of them, but personally felt TDKR was better.

We are sounding like YouTube commenters. I seriously don't want to become that.

That would've been visual effects. Me, I would've replaced Snow White with it.

For which worthy outstanding visual effects, if you don't mind the question? At least, Snow White has all the Charlize's transformations, the mirror and the Dwarving process (That one was really impressive no matter how shitty you thought that movie was. It was more impressive than The Hobbit in that regard). Edited by dashrendar44

Phil the hobbit, i agree with everything in your posts. You have defended this movie with logic and sound reasoning. you have my respect dude:)

Thanks man, I must say there are some very good critiques of the film out there. Film Crit Hulk was a great read, and closer to home, clonewars knew his stuff. But by and large people seem to mistake 'nit-picking' for logic and sound reasoning.

Yh visual effects is given to films with heavier use of CGi. TDKR had barely any compared to movies like Avengers and the hobbit. Hope hobbit wins it. You can see that weta really went all out. Avengers and Prometheus would be second to it.I heard the tiger in life of pi was all cgi. If true it looks amazing!

Best Visual Effects

THE AVENGERS, Janek Sirrs, Jeff White, Guy Williams and Dan Sudick

THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY, Joe Letteri, Eric Saindon, David Clayton and R. Christopher White

LIFE OF PI, Bill Westenhofer, Guillaume Rocheron, Erik-Jan De Boer and Donald R. Elliott

PROMETHEUS, Richard Stammers, Trevor Wood, Charley Henley and Martin Hill

SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN, Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, Philip Brennan, Neil Corbould and Michael Dawson

The fact that TDKR isn't even nominated and The AVENGERS is makes this thread seem even more significant..

:wtf: are you on dude. Visual effects doesnt mean a movie was better. Hence why snow white is there.

No, it's given to the Best Visual Effects. Period. Why did Inception win against Alice In Wonderland and IM2 which are more CGI-heavy then? Stop making excuses. It's not a Best CGI awards and Inception is the living proof. If TDKR did not get an nom, that's not the reason. The real reason is that TDKR's Visual Effects were nothing remarkable compared to the other contender this year. No wowing effects like Paris being bent in two or JGL fighting in spinning hotel corridors.

By the way, there's plenty of CGI all over the movie:

The plane heist.(Wings getting clipped out is full CGI, Composite sky and green screen in the fake plane set interior shots).

Batpod. (The Batpod jumping up the ramp is full CG. Everytime the Batpod made it's 180° wheels spinning, it's full CGI including Batman and Catwoman riding it who are also CG doubles)

Say Hi to FULL CGI rides:

The Stadium scene. Crowding the stadium with CGI football fans. The big hole tearing the football ground open and dramatizing the on-set explosions with CGI touch ups.

Gotham bridges exploding and the collapsing results with CG fighters flying above. The aerial shot with massive explosions throughout the city. All of Gotham cityscapes with digitally removed parts past the Queensboro Bridge. Cast digital snow wherever the shots needed (when fake snow on actual plate is not enough) to emphasize the fact the movie took place in cold winter since it was shot in summer.

The Bat. Rigs removal when the practical Bat is hovering down the streets and Full CGI Bat during all the flying scenes at night, dodging CG missiles and slaloming between buildings in broad daylight are full CG. CG buildings to cast realistic Bat reflections.

Queensboro Bridge explosion with the road collapsing where JGL stands in front of the army.

Nuclear explosion.

(I might forget some of them. There's obviously more to it but they're less noticeable)

All rendered in native Imax resolution. That's a whole lotta work for a CGI light movie...

Sorry I don't think I was clear. I meant usually its given to movies with heavier use of cgi. Inception had more than TDKR. If you look at past winners its evident the route the academy takes.

Also when you have the Hulk and Gollum rendered so well, do you think the academy cares for a batwing flying around?

Again you and bkb just trying to imply with your posts that its a shit movie because it didn't get nominated. Its getting tiresome now. You don't like the movie mate than fair enough. Its a threequel, they usually split some audiences.

You missed the point by a mile: The fact that TDKR was excluded was basically a slap in the face to the arrogant Nolan fans who were so certain this movie would rack up some nominations that it's laughable it didn't..

Fair enough. My only response is that this forum is not KJ. I hear that is a nut town.We don't have alot of nutters here. Passionate people but only a few nutters. So to always mention nolanites etc seems abit off mate.

Inception had way less CGI than IM2 and AiW but it won so it's a moot point. Academy don't reward Best Visual Effects on the amount of CGI overuse.

But I agree with you. When the best visual highlights of your movie is a CGI (ugly) batcopter dodging sloppy CG missiles in empty streets, don't be sad over not being considered when you're competing with Prometheus, Life Of Pi, Avengers and Hobbit.

Maybe those following miscellanies:

87% critics approval at Rotten Tomatoes/92% audience approval at Rotten Tomatoes

78% metacritic approval rating/8.5 user score at metacritic

8.7 score at imdb

A CinemaScore

Top 10 of AFI 2012 movies

It is the 7th highest grossing movie of All Time Domestically

It is the 7th highest grossing movie of All Time WorldWide

that Nolan fans keep on spewing out to counteract every single criticism meant jackshit for the Academy. They might consider sending those old tarts that memo and death threats to prove them wrong.

dont know what bootleg version you were watching but those missiles were far from sloppy cgi. Nor did the batwing look cgi at all. it was actually pretty difficult to distinguish between practical effects and cgi in the movie. It was well done.Just because a movie is highly rated doesnt mean it needs to be nominated for anything. I agree there were like 1-2 people who were pushing it to win awards etc on this forum, but by and large everyone knew it had no chance. If TDK couldnt this wouldnt either. As i replied to BKB, this forum has passionate people but not nutters like KJ. I think if you want to hate on nolan fans, that would be the place to go. Bar a few people we are all cool here:) Its one of the reasons i only come to this forums to talk about movies. There is so much difference on opinion. Makes for interesting conversation. People like BKB and even you i have no problem with. I enjoy the discussion. I just believe the hate has to stop now. Its always BKB or you who is bumping this thread up but yet are also always asking it to be closed aswell.

There's nothing wrong with TDKR not getting a visual effect nomination, after all Nolan mostly uses practical effects instead of CGI. The Acadamy tend to appreciate effects like mo-cap or bringing creatures to life hence way The Hulk, Gollum, life of Pi's tiger etc will get noticed more than the destruction of a football pitch. This is why I'm suprised John Carter didn't get a nod as the creatures looked spectacular. Also I had no idea the plane scene at the beginning of TDKR was CGI, I thought they actually did that stunt. If it was CGI, then it looked good.
