  1. GotG will pass the 3mil mark this week, it's only 100k away. Will be interesting to see how much it can make this weekend since Lucy is finally opening here so it will take some audience away but it's R16.
  2. I was in awe when I saw The Avengers in the cinema. It actually exceeded my expectations. It was filled with spectacle, money shots, humour and great characters. There are flaws but you don't really pay attention to them on your first viewing. It delivered on all the set-up and gave us something we hadn't seen. Guardians of the Galaxy is similar. It was non-stop enjoyment through and through. The characters are stronger here since they are established in this film not prior ones. Just as funny, great soundtrack and visually spectacular. It also gave us something unique. It's tough to choose since GotG is still new and fresh in my mind, while I've seen TA heaps over the 2+ years. So from first theatre experience I'm gonna go for The Avengers. There was no Hulk anger problem. In the Helicarrier he was surprised and fighting from turning into the Hulk, so when he does he lacks the control over the Hulk. In the final battle, he was in full control. I don't think Iron Man dies. It's a similar situation in Guardians with Quill and Gamora. Once they got oxygen back in their system they appeared to be fine. I also found all characters to have their humourous moments in both films with Stark and Quill leading it.
  3. I think Zuko is the weakest in the family. I'd put it Ozai -> Iroh -> Azula -> Zuko.
  4. Really liked the film. Wasn't a fan of the ending though. A
  5. Haven't seen this. Avengers better Superhero film. Enjoyed it more than TDK. TDK better film. Rank them equally since they are different.
  6. Definitely yes. I think it's the best season so far (of Korra). Give it go. I don't get the hate for S2 though, yeah it wasn't as good as the first but still very solid imo.
  7. GotG easily held first place, only dropped 42.2% for a $692,936 2nd weekend. Second best drop for a big budget film after Apes. Total is now $2,708,579. Hundred-Foot Journey actually came in second for $362,442 and Expendables tanked with only $253,917.
  8. 22JS has passed 300mil WW this weekend thanks to OS box office takings!
  9. Just realised that until Sat numbers come out, The Avengers made more money in its first weekend than GotG has now. I know not really related but still crazy.
  10. I didn't see any cocoon. However the cocoon was near the blast zone (and nearly all containers were broken) so even if we didn't see it, I still think it was blasted open.
  11. They also had the shot of Zaheer after Tenzin said that 'as long as I'm breathing' . We know what Zaheer can do now.
  12. Omg, another fantastic episode. Tenzin was an absolute badass. Lovin' it.
  13. Oh, understand you now The NZ market is kind of at a stand still at the moment. It increased every year from 2005 ($146mil) to 2010 ($176mil, a record). In 2011 it dropped to 161mil probably due to the Earthquake and Rugby World Cup. Increased again in 2012 and 2013 for 173mil and 175mil, respectively. 2014 is on par with 2012/13 but is higher at the moment due to Guardians (which has passed 2mil already). I think this year can beat 2010.
  14. Expendables 3 is out so I went to see Guardians again My theatre was pretty packed so not sure if E3 will take it down. The other two didn't open that big.
  15. Saw the trailer for this when I went to see Guardians again and at the end it said it's coming out on Boxing Day. I cry.
  16. Decent numbers, could still increase. Gonna be a real close weekend but still think TMNT will win it.
  17. I actually enjoy Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Galactus part was meh though.
  18. Dawn / Apes - My winner GOTG Interstellar Hobbit Godzilla
  19. Just got this on DVD and watched it again. Man, one of the best Superhero films and a great film in general. Action choreography was fantastic (probs best action sequences in a CBM), great performances, story (loved the Hydra twist), humour and had emotion too. Thought the political commentary was slightly subtle, not too forced so that was great. Really looked forward to Cap 3 with the Russo's at the helm. A
  20. When I rewatched the X-Men's before DOFP I did find the first one was a bit aged but the second still stands great to this day.
