Mainstream horror yeah. Indie releases with like 20 reviews usually fare better.

Glad to see it may live up to some sort of great numbers... Horror, much like hard-R action movies, are hard to come by that are any good. My wife loved the 1st one and I felt it was passable (like Urosepsis, I am not a fan of the genre, and he listed the same movies I felt were good - Saw, and CITW among other recent fare).

For those who are interested, The Conjuring 2 now boasts a 109M stock on HSX.com.

 

Its sequel competitor, Now You See Me 2, has 71M, while Warcraft is barely more than half of Conjuring's w/59M. May be an indicator of NYSM2 being slightly underpredicted (or not).

I think this scores a 3x+ multi based on reviews, the drought of appealing horror for the last year+, and the drought of well received movies in general this summer so far. It could be huge if it also opens big.

I think this could open to as high as 70M OW. The first film had a lot of goodwill behind it, expanded its audience after its theatrical release and with little competition out there it just seems like all the stars are aligned for a break out opening. I'm seeing 65/150

Just hoping for $40m. Not getting my hopes up for this at the BO. If it does better than that, great. Can't wait for Tuesday.

It will not open under 40M for sure. I would say over 60M. The first one was really well received (I liked it a lot too) and even the Spin-Off Annabelle (with pretty bad reviews) was able to catch 37.1M.
I'm also really looking forward to watch it, this time in theaters :).

PS: The Conjuring was also R-Rated ;).

The first and Annabelle weren't box office poison. The Purge movies aren't box office poison. Paranormal Activity wasn't box office poison. Saw wasn't box office poison.
