The Interview | Limited Release on December 25, 2014

The hackers asked for ransom so it is obvious that they aren't North Koreans. Besides, for all of its bluster North Korea is always narrowly focused on their geographical region. They don't really give a lot of fucks about what goes on in Europe and US.

But didn't North Korea demand money from U.S. in return for not developing nukes?

I think if they have any hopes of getting the movie out at this point, it would have to be a complete surprise release like what Beyonce did with her new album, so no one else has the opportunity to do a scare campaign.

The Interview would be a complete FLOP if it had a surprise release. Movies released wide NEED marketing to make money. :slaphead:

Word is Sony's considering a VOD release. You wouldn't necessarily need to get the word out in advance. And once it's online, any hackers would be pretty much powerless to stop it. Sony could use piracy to their own advantage.

You mean pure speculation. There is no word on the street at the moment, just people speculating away.

U.S. Investigators have determined hackers working for North Korea were behind #Sony hack per @evanperez #cnn

And yet, what else is the official word gonna be? They can't exactly say, "Oh, sorry, we buckled under to a bunch of angry miscellaneous nerds".

How would a VOD work? Theaters chains are scared to show it, so why wouldnt cable providers be scared? And Itunes just had all those nudes leaked, do they really want to put it on Itunes movies, and Netflix? And then if they just go direct to DVD, next youll have Walmart and Target and Best Buy getting threatened.

I feel piracy may be the only way at this point. Weve showed we're all pussies especially economically so I dont how this gets released on demand/on video/streaming unless the seller, like Walmart, says fuck you.
