The Interview | Limited Release on December 25, 2014

40 MINUTES!!!!!

http://googleblog.blogspot.co.uk/2014/12/the-interview-now-available-on-google.html

Last Wednesday Sony began contacting a number of companies, including Google, to ask if we’d be able to make their movie, "The Interview," available online. We'd had a similar thought and were eager to help—though given everything that’s happened, the security implications were very much at the front of our minds.

Of course it was tempting to hope that something else would happen to ensure this movie saw the light of day. But after discussing all the issues, Sony and Google agreed that we could not sit on the sidelines and allow a handful of people to determine the limits of free speech in another country (however silly the content might be).

So starting at 10 a.m. PST in the U.S., you can rent or buy "The Interview" on Google Play and YouTube Movies. It will also be available to Xbox Video customers and via www.seetheinterview.com.

I will try to catch this in the theaters rather than watching in my computer.

This release strategy though does make me think Sony had every intention of not releasing this, and yes, they are burying it. After this weekend with the insane PTA, this could have very well expanded to major theaters.

Yeah, it's clear that they're over all this and just want the movie to disappear.

A 16-screen theater is opening it close by next weekend. I'll try to check it out, don't really feel like watching it online.

Guys to say Sony planned on still losing millions potentially to promote the movie is silly. Seems like a couple conflicting decisions between Sony corporate headquarters (Japan) and Sony Pictures (USA).

They could've easily waited to see what the grosses would've been this weekend, to see if the major chains would've caved. That they're releasing it on all these platforms makes it seem like they're just over it all.
