I live in the 'Heartland' ... and let me tell you ... we like porn just like the rest of the US ... in some cases due to the boring lifestyle probably more.

Wolf will do fine ... and if my theater was an indication ... a handful  will not like it, but it generally went over like gangbusters.

Hobbit & Frozen going one on one for #1.

As much as I love Frozen (and am surprised it's #1,) anyone who says it's doing so well just because of WOM is sorely mistaken. It does have great WOM, but the main cause of success, as I said in my club back in June, is that there is zero competition for it despite the kids audience being the strongest during the holiday season. It's bigger than any of us expected and a combination of good WOM and zero competition has done this.

I wonder why there is always so little family fare released in December. I remember Cloudy 2 was originally scheduled for December and moved. Maybe they should have left it there

A lot of man-candy in that movie. Should be big with the female audiences.

Yeah, probably. Especially the teenagers. The only one I like out of those is Michael B. Jordan. Haven't seen a trailer yet.

I generally agree, although it does have Hobbit going for a similar family audience.

That said, Frozen obviously skews much younger. I think a major component for Frozen's success is that it's the first movie to get the Disney princess thing right in a very long time. Women are gaga over this movie, but the men still like it too. That's a potent combination (as we're seeing).

I think it's more than that...cause I think Tangled was the movie that finally got that right.  It finally broke through and put Disney feature animation back as meaningful, paving the road ahead for this to really break out.  I don't think Frozen would be performing like it is now, if not for Tangled having existed and being received as it was before.

Wow, so American Hustle has already pulled ahead of Wolf of Wall St.

Wolf is just too long and too off-putting for the heartland.

Honestly, Hustle was a bit overlong. Haven't seen Wolf, but Hustle definitely suffered from a lack of focus and trying to juggle five main characters instead of just three that were interesting (Bale, Adams, and Renner)

I think Hobbit is failing to appeal to families. I think the demographics for opening weekend skewed male and older

That's true, too. Tangled started this, but I also don't feel like it was a widely beloved as Frozen seems to be.
