http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/29/movies/avatar-director-james-cameron-builds-in-new-zealand.html?pagewanted=all"The “Avatar” sequels, Mr. Cameron said, will almost certainly be shot in Mr. Jackson’s Wellington production studio, about 15 minutes by helicopter from Pounui. Visual effects will be completed at nearby Weta Digital, owned by Mr. Jackson and his partners, though motion-capture work on the “Avatar” sequels will still be done on a stage in California. “Avatar 2” will not be ready until 2015 or later, at least a year past the 2014 date Fox executives once had in mind."He's currently working on the scripts.

Just a warning there's a chance these sequels might make less than Avatar, and that's okay.

it's very likely really. when you take away the initial wow factor of the 3D (which not everyone even loved), Avatar is a very average film.when you see TDKR decreasing from TDK and that is coming off possibly the best loved film of the last decade, it wouldn't be a surprise at all for avatar 234 to decrease

It's almost certain they will make less.Increasing on $760m DOM is a ridiculous task - something that a $760m-grossers sequel will find it hard to do!

But that's not the big news. This is:

Dec 2018: HOBBITAR I

Dec 2019: HOBBITAR II

Dec 2020: HOBBITAR III

I actualy think that PJC collaboration would be fantastically successful. PJ and Spielberg are bad match because they both wallow in sentimentality. OTOH, PJ and JC complement each other perfectly. And if JC can`t inspire PJ to make an original movie, no one else can. They could come up with something that`s gonna be this geenration`s Raiders, like Lucas and Spielberg did before Lucas raped childhoods and Spielberg fell into sentimental claptrap for the sake of Oscars.

Holy fucking Christ... I mean do we really need 4 Avatar movies? Though I don't think it deserves the golden standard it's often held up to, I did enjoy the first movie for the visually epic fun ride it was and do think they could expand upon it with a sequel... but talking about four movies just makes me think "obvious cash grab" and I really don't want the 3D fad to be revived now that it finally seems to be dying.
