to be fair the OP made some convicing arguments which probably swayed him too far away from the real number

To be fair ailta does not have the biggest following in the anime community in NA. I think it would helped if JC went to some bigger anime studios like bones Wit or madhouse and had them make an anime based on the series a couple years beforehand.

Is the movie itself going to have the high frame rate, or is it just for the presentation?

Yes, but it will be variable. Some sequences will be in 24fps and other in 48fps (i think it´s 48).

What some people found distractive is because the 5 minute presentation have footage from both types of frames and it keeps switching quickly, so it´s disturbed some.

In the actual movie i believe the variations will be in selected sequences so it will change smoothly and will works well without bringing much attention to itself.

Hasn't hfr caused similar issues for the other major films that have tried it (the hobbit movies and bill Lynn for example)

I can imagine the underwater scenes being really effective in 48fps. I can remember being mesmerised by the HFR 3D snowflakes in the second Hobbit movie.

SO the five minutes is another tech demonstration and does not  tell us much about the plot and charecters?

yes, footage from the movie but it´s random scenes without dialogue or plot points.

They did, but i think the problem is exactly because the whole movies was in HFR.

I saw all the 3 hobbits in the format and Gemini Man, and it´s a mixed bag. In the action sequences (especially Gemini Man) it works very well, it brings a sense of dynamism that i think it´s impossible to get in usual presentation.

The problem is with slower scenes, dialogues, people walking, again it looks well too dynamic and in these slower situations it just gets very distractive and unnatural.

Avatar can solve this if it uses only in action sequences and underwater scenes (that normally is too slow in 24fps because of the movement of the water). I think the fact that Pandora is entirely digital will help too, HFR looks weirder when it´s human people / real environments in scene.

It depends on much of the film is in hfr. If the majority of it is ( and that could very well be the case) it's going to have some problems with audiences

Cameron was so involved with Alita (with his name on it way more than Rodriguez) including writing it and overseeing so much of it that to act like it would've done better if he was in the director's seat is disingenuous at best.

Funny thing was avatar 1 was supposed to be the tech demo and then alita was going to blow everyone away
