Official Weekend Estimates: Maleficent - 70M, X-Men - 32.6M, A Million Ways - 17.1M, Godzilla - 12.2M

This is 4 years after Alice though... Does half the Friday matinee number really mean half the OW? There can be other factors at play.

Other factors to consider, too. For example, wasn't Alice in the middle of the school year? Whereas now, some schools are out for summer. Of course, Alice didn't have 7pm previews I dont think.

Thank you, now we have a basis.

Alice in Wonderland made 40.8m, this is roughly half of that. So its not actually trending that strong

Considering the time of year the two were released, it looks even worse in comparison. During March when Alice came out, all students including college kids are still in school. In late May, college kids are out of school and a lot of younger kids are out too. My local school district finished school yesterday, so the kids could easily go to the movies today.

Difficult to know how things are going to go. Still too early but AMWTDITW figures don't look encouraging.

21 Jump Street made less during midnight but grossed over $36m during its OW. The preview numbers for Million Ways don't really tell us much.

It is trending for a 60M OW. Not bad.

For a film that Disney spent over 200m on apparently, if it opened with that much, it really wouldn't be that good, technically.

In comparison AMTDITW is not looking to do so well at the box office, but at least it only has a modest budget of 40m, so Universal won't lose much money on it likely.

Maleficent will have to make some big bucks overseas if it wants to considered profitable, and that's more than likely going to happen.

Of course this is only matinee numbers for one person and it is May, so things may be different.
