rainbowtrout
Ouch for Young Adult. Diablo Cody's name being an asset to a production are long-gone, good reviews or not.IMO, her name might actually be a turn-off now. You can only take so much cutesy, unrealistic dialogue like "moveon.org" or "honest to blog." The funny thing is that Young Adult supposedly doesn't feature this annoying trait. But it does feature Cody sh****** all over Midwestern people again. Edited December 17, 2011 by rainbowtrout
Gopher
If it has the same exact run as Alvin 1 from here on out, it makes 113 million. Unadjusted for inflation, that's half of the Squeakquel!Alvin is this year's Yogi Bear and Sherlock is this year's Fockers. I imagine that MI4 will be our Tron Legacy and War Horse, Tintin or Tattoo will be our True Grit.
MrWhoopee
I wonder how much the weekend grosses of MI4 and to a lesser extent SH2 were affected by The Dark Knight Rises?
Founder / Operator Shawn Robbins Posted December 17, 2011 Founder / Operator Share Posted December 17, 2011 Well, can't say I'm surprised about Alvin or even MI4...but I'm slightly shocked that Holmes 2 is going this way. Never could have figured that from the crowds I saw at midnight and last night. The Great Box Office Recession continues.

But I have to imagine it's going to be profitable for the studio once home video and foreign(which I don't expect too much) is figured into the mix. We may see budgets start to slowly go down, maybe not significantly but I'm sure studios will be tighter. We have already seen AtMoM be canned, TLR have a drop in budget, now A&L and Paradise Lost likely seeing budget cuts. Hatebox
Budgets should be lower anyway, recession or not. For a supposed 'industry', It's absurd how expensive some blockbusters are.

Bitcher
Atmom?Mountains of Madness. A pity.BTW Sherlock made less than Immortals on its opening day. :PTerrible, still I can't say I'm sorry to see an uninspired looking sequel go. I'm wondering how well it will hold next week, possibly too early to call it a disaster. Then again, same thing was being said after KFPanda2 OW. fishstick
The force is strong with BD. Supposed first competition in weeks bites the dust. There`s no way to spin SH2 number. It`s an epic fail.
rockNrollaDIM
I'm really shocked by Sherlock Holmes number. I feel like this one had less advertising/buzz. Hopefully the holidays will carry it to a respectable finish. And foreign should be huge regardless. So all is not lost.

Hatebox
I wish I'd had the guts to make a club for Sherlock, it's opening is just what I thought it'd be given the good but not great reception of the first film and the extremely tired marketing.
