terrestrial
shouldn't gotg be doing much better overseas, how much can be expected from china and japan? No, as the first installment never get high. It did and still does great in English spoken countries and in ~ Europe, Russia, and some Southern America countries. It had a 'little bit' inconvenient release date in some countries like e.g. South Korea, as there was a local hero bio pic movie that took in up to 90% of the complete BO => over 1/3 of its citizens saw that bio-pic The release date they got for China (governmental controlled) is not good, so the Chinese experts at International estimate $50m to $70m (with still some hope for a smaller additional break through, but based on the date rather difficult) Japan = big unknown, Germany /Austria just started this weekend, Greece and Italy still waiting for the release. Italy is the last one = 22 October Suber / BOM estimates $730m => very high for a first installment. Take a look again at the international numbers, first parts, 2nd parts of the movies... see IM 2's number and be aware that GotG will earn according to Subers and... something between IM 2 and the much higher earning Thor 2 and as such seemingly also CA 2 worldwide numbers and be aware about in a lot of countries the people are way less informed about Marvel and so on, in opposition to what people here sometimes seem to think not all interested and aware about some of the MCU movies will watch all of the MCU movies or do already know about GotGs connection to the MCU. No Disneyland event,.... and partly badly dubbed
TServo2049
GOTG seems like it'll follow the general rule of Marvel Studios first installments (as well as other surprise domestic overperformer franchise-starters like Shrek, Pirates 1, Transformers, How to Train Your Dragon, and Despicable Me). Namely, the first movie does decent business OS, then the sequels increase (or in some cases, absolutely explode).GOTG2's OS run will be interesting to watch. (Same deal with Lego 2.) RichWS
If Guardians can make $700M+, just imagine how much Guardians 2 can make, especially leading up to Avengers 3.
miketheavenger
Even though Avengers 2 isn't out yet, I think it's fair to say that Phase 2 of the MCU has been a big success all around.

I was going to respond "are you insane, you think GOTG is going to double TA in Japan?!" but then I realized you meant $90M combined.

I was going to respond "are you insane, you think GOTG is going to double TA in Japan?!" but then I realized you meant $90M combined. It might make more than The Avengers in Japan. From what I've heard, the Japanese marketing campaign for Avengers came across as rather offensive. They also do enjoy talking animals. That said, even if it makes more, I just can't imagine it hitting 90M in Japan. No way.
