Tetris: The Movie | Taron Egerton stars in a movie about Tetris' legality

Have to recreate this thread thanks to the forums going crazy. The newest block buster (literally) is headed to the theaters

A film adaptation of the classic ‘80s video game “Tetris” will be falling into theaters sometime in the near future.

Threshold Entertainment has teamed up with the Tetris Company to develop a live-action film based on the game. While no directors or cast are attached to the film yet, there is a story in place.

“It’s a very big, epic sci-fi movie,” Threshold’s CEO Larry Kasanoff tells Speakeasy exclusively. “This isn’t a movie with a bunch of lines running around the page. We’re not giving feet to the geometric shapes.”

Kasanoff’s best known for adapting the “Mortal Kombat” games to the big screen – 1995’s “Mortal Kombat” grossed $70 million according to Boxoffice Mojo, with the 1997 sequel, “Mortal Kombat: Annihilation,” grossing $35 million. For Threshold, they’re hoping to build off the brand’s notoriety and legacy.

“Brands are the new stars of Hollywood,” he says. “We have a story behind ‘Tetris’ which makes it a much more imaginative thing.”

If the film does well, Kasanoff isn’t looking to limit the “Tetris” world to just a big-screen experience. “We certainly have the canvas for location-based entertainment based on the epicness.”

“What you [will] see in ‘Tetris’ is the teeny tip of an iceberg that has intergalactic significance,” Kasanoff says.

Not really seeing how they can make a movie off the Tetris game. Why not try Legend of Zelda if you really want to make a movie off a game? That one at least has a plot.

Tons of games have a plot and can be interesting to see as a film. Warcraft, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, The Last of Us or Uncharted are very interesting projects. This is awful...

Yes, we should trust the man who gave us Foodfight!

This film will probably end up being the spiritual sequel to Battleship (if the Space Invaders movie doesn't first).

Space Invaders can have something in relation to the game easily enough I think (I'm still a lot doubtful on the project but...). This and Battleship had nothing to do with the game (this even less I suppose, a epic sci-fi movie from Tetris seriously Hollywood). Even Angry Birds seems a better fit for a movie.

Put a number in the title and I'll consider it

Tetr1s

Go full ridiculous or go home !!

Though numbers are for sequels normally and this won't have sequels.

Cannes: ‘Tetris’ Heads for China Shoot as Larry Kasanoff, Bruno Wu Venture

http://variety.com/2016/film/asia/tetris-movie-heads-for-china-shoot-1201776812/

“Mortal Kombat” producer Larry Kasanoff has teamed with Chinese businessman Bruno Wu to produce “Tetris: The Movie” as an $80 million China-U.S. co-production.

The picture will be set up as one of the first pictures from Threshold Global Studios, a new company involving Kasanoff’s Threshold Entertainment and Wu’s Seven Stars Entertainment.

“Tetris,” envisaged as a three part franchise picture will shoot partly in China and feature Chinese cast in prominent positions.

Does that mean he can’t do Little Shop cause of scheduling conflicts? Asking for a friend.

Also this movie sounds ridiculous and I’m completely here for it.
