The Box Office Mojo issues thread. Brad Brevet is the new editor, the Simanton reign is over.

Anyone wonder if perhaps some Hollywood studios didn't like so much financial information being out there and public too? They may have "encouraged" amazon/imdb to make some data less available. It's one thing for analysts or even journalists to have access to data, but it's another thing for the entire world to be able to see it.

Why would it be an issue? It's not like the data pointed to fraud or anything.

I know.  I just can't help but think this will be something that is going to loom over Mojo even if it does come back.  IMDb will always be in control unless someone else takes it off their hands, and that isn't very likely.

This is actually true. It's pretty clear from the way the forums were handled to how this temporary situation has been handled that IMDB isn't good at managing Mojo. Even if everything works out, you still can't trust that company.

hmm .. I suspect a much simpler approach. They want to sell more IMDBpro accounts. At 150$ a year that's a sizeable bit if, say, 5% of regular BOM users get one.

Probably.

Anyway, thank you Box Office Mojo for what you've done, it was a funny experience.

Now I will go ahead and be less implicated in BO stats, it's the opportunity to do something else, nothing is lost when you ride the wave to evolve.

RIP BOM.

It's not like BOM is even the first to report on most of the data it receives. We have Deadline + the trades for early weekend estimates and ERC reports actuals before BOM does.

Don't worry about past box office data: a lot of it has been saved on archive.org (Internet Archive Wayback Machine).

**IMPORTANT** You can even navigate your way through Box Office Mojo if every link you click has been archived.

So the question is, What is next ?

Does Amazon merge IMDB into it's sales site... merging all the box office data it has into a single point meaning you can go and buy direct where the data is.......

Merging IMDB and BOM into Amazon could be a great idea for them.
