So now the US will be the only territory where AOU significantly decreased from the first one? Bloody yanks  :P

Australia also saw a significant decrease from the first  52m vs 40m AUD  don't even look in USD ... it's even worse

That's still a much smaller decrease percentage wise than it dropped in the U.S. Either the first TA way over-performed domestic or U.S. audiences just aren't that much into superheroes anymore.

It dropped about 26% in the US vs about 22.5% in Aus.  Not exactly a gaping disparity.

As for popularity, it is still going to make about $460m in the US.  Last year the popular loved SH movie GOTG made about $130m less in the US.  But two of the top four movies in the US were SH movies and another 3 if one includes Big Hero 6 rounded up the top 12.  That's 5 out of 12 domestic and 5 out of 11 WW in 2014 and AOU dwarfs them all.

The correct OS total as of Sunday was $926m (confirmed by deadline),so still $20m to go. However, after this weekend, around $10m will be left.

Then things makes sense again

From BO Global Report

Avengers: Age of Ultron finally blasted into its last overseas territory Japan this weekend and posted a very strong estimated two-day total of $6.5 million. That makes it the biggest opening weekend for a Marvel Cinematic Universe release in Japan, beating the Avengers opening by 60% in local currency. Its opening has also already exceeded the total runs of both Captain America films and both Thor films in local currency. In addition, Ultron scored the biggest opening weekend for an imported film this year beating out fellow Disney titles Big Hero 6 and Cinderella. Though its off to a strong start, Ultron’s legs will be tested over the next several weeks as Genisys, Inside Out, Minions, Jurassic World, and MI5 are released in quick succession. Ultron has grossed $929.3 million overseas and $1.383499 billion globally since its release in late April.

Japan has long legs, nothing to worry about. At least until the release of Jurassic World in August.
