yeah they had a VR tie-in but it was nowhere near promotoed or available to everyone.  Or if it is, they didn't really tell anyone about it :P

I agree it was an easy thing to do, then even did it for IT last year, so they did drop the ball on that part

Well there you go, I was unaware of this. This is promoted nowhere on social medias. That's kind of mind-boggling for a Spielberg helmed movie. The visionary king of Hollywood entertainment.

I CANNOT believe the pessimism surrounding this movie on twitter right now, especially after these new posters. Like, it's Steven Spielberg... It's not going to suck. And if people are annoyed about all the nostalgia porn in this movie... they really need to know that Spielberg directed this. Any other director and it would be annoying, but it's Spielberg... He is responsible for why all these things are nostalgic.

Yeah, Ready Player One is actually trending worldwide on Twitter right now.

And not in a good way, but in a "everyone is collectively shitting on the posters" way.

I know Twitter itself is a shitzone, but.... eek.

I imagine once they see the movie, they'll be gushing over it....

Everyone seems to be hating RPO based off advertising, but when they actually go and see the film, a lot will (hopefully), probably say "wow that's pretty good", or  "that was amazing. Greatest movie ever", or even, "that was alright!", and so on.

Yup, this movie could test Spielberg auteur's immunity  when it comes to bad reviews.

Or the movie delivers and we are all fools by judging a book by its cover.

It's not even the first film to use nostalgia as a hook, Who Framed Roger Rabbit had tons of references as did more recent films like Wreck it Ralph and The Lego Movie, I find a bit odd.

I do think the film is going to very different from the book, @grim22 has already mentioned a few people he knows have seen it and thought it was good and really enjoyed it so I'm hopeful the film is on par with Spielberg's recent big budget films like The BFG or Tintin.

Spielberg has had a history of changing the original source material to film to some extent (Jaws, Jurassic Park), so it wouldn't surprise me at all, if that's the case with RPO. The book wasn't particularly well-received, and he probably took the main elements of the story, and then approached it a bit differently, or something.

not getting into spoilers, but he has definitely changed a lot and the book was pretty well received but not sure that will help if people just aren't interested in the film
