Dead on. The US are incredibly patriotic to their war heroes.

This just hit all the right marks. Right film at the right time. Perfectly synced to its big haul of Oscar nominations. An actor at the peak of his stardom.

I guess the clues were there with its insane averages on limited release.

This is an extraordinary opening weekend though. Fantastic start to 2015.

That's one of the most surprising, shocking WTF openings in film history.

 

It's very impressive, but that's going a bit far. Cooper and Eastwood are A-list, the trailer was great and the subject matter is clearly a draw to Americans. It opened about 50% higher than I thought it would.
