This was awful, and not even fun as camp other than a few unintentional snickers. Please go away, E.L. James.

This is largely why I stan for these. I really don't get the passionate hatred people have for them, it seems exhausting. If you don't like it then fine but people really spend so much energy on hating it. Just ignore them? I really don't get it.

lol no.

Another thing: two movies in now and we've see almost all of Dakota Johnson, and yet Jamie Dornan keeps his jeans on during the sex scenes. The closest thing he does to nudity is a random 5 second ass shot. lol come the fuck on now. At least make an attempt to please your audience.

This is so ridiculous, seriously. It seems that they don't give a fuck to their main audience, and the worst part is that women keeps giving money to them.

This describes what people really want from Fifty Shades.

To be fair, it's not like anyone seems to want to put in the effort. Even Johnson, who was by far the best thing about the first movie, spends most of this one looking like she just wants to collect her paycheck and go home.

I know, but E.L James spent months promising that would give what her fans wanted in this sequel, and, it seems that nothing changed compared to the first movie, tell me about fake marketing.

Heading for a 50%+ drop from the first one in Australia.

1 1 FIFTY SHADES OF GREY (MA15+), UNIVERSAL [523/ $25,391] 13,279,728 N/A
13,279,728

Fifty Shades Darker:

Wednesday previews - AUD1.58m

Thursday OD - AUD1.36m

I'm thinking the weekend will be around AUD5m which will give AUD6.5m at most by Sunday.

The first one performed much better in Australia relative to Domestic.  At this stage I'm thinking I'll give the first one an adjusted 3 day of USD88m so a drop of 50-60% puts it at USD35.2-44m.

Let's call and OW of $39.7m.

I've realised why I thought it was having a massive drop in Australia.  That's the full opening week for FSOG.  This was the opening weekend.

1 1 FIFTY SHADES OF GREY (MA15+), UNIVERSAL [523/ $19,957] 10,437,535 N/A
10,437,535

USD5.9m converts to AUD7.7m.  Assuming that includes the previews the regular 4 day weekend was AUD6.34m

My hatred for this franchise is hardly vehement.  I didn't see the first one.  I saw the sequel because I was reviewing.  Is it an awful movie?  Yes.  It's badly acted, poorly shot and terribly written.  Would I have paid to see it?  No.  However, in its badness, it was still very entertaining.  I saw it in a packed house and people were laughing their heads off.  It was fun.  The movie is bad, but it definitely passes into so bad it's good territory.  I have no issues about having seen it.

If people enjoy these movies good for them.  I'm not going to say they shouldn't make these or people shouldn't watch them.  There's clearly an audience there.

Even with the drops, this sequel will be highly profitable.  It has a fraction of the budget of your average big budget blockbuster or superhero tentpole.  With that in mind, it makes sense why Universal wants to keep making them.  Not saying you have to like it, but it's a good business decision.
