I think you dont understand Dash.

The simplicity of it makes it wide appealing and the reason it was such a big hit.

It feels like a 90's epic blockbuster, where all logic goes out the window and you have likeable characters and cool action like Independence Day.

uhh-no-bitch.gif

The only remotely interesting, let alone likable, character is Owen, whose character is dependent on "OMG HE'S CHRIS PRATT LOVE HIM LOVE HIM".

Every other character was bland, the stockiest or stock characters, or have their one defining trait as being brutally murdered by pterodactyls. Say what you will about the humans in Godzilla, but they're supposed to be confused and terrified.

Film is not an art to majority of people. It's just popcorn entertainment to escape from reality.

Why else do the biggest films ever are full of stock characters with likeable main stars. It is because they service the film well.

My views are of what the audience want not what I want or we all would have liked from the film.

I was confused by the films success but after watching it I can see why it was such a big hit.

It's good entertainment for all ages and groups. Sci fi and fantasy and superhero don't appeal to people my parents age.

Who cares if film is not art to a majority of people?? Why does that mean that we can't ask for a better class of summer blockbuster?

Yeah because asking blockbusters to be made competently like Edge Of Tomorrow for hence with a logical journey from point A to point B and compelling arcs are such a hard hurdle, that's really artsy fartsy requests...JW is shallow entertainment made by cynical commitee that doesn't even bother to elevate the material they crapped by rehashing and remaking JP in a duller way. This movie basically said since the concept/premise is stupid, the characters are vapid and stupid and you're stupid to indulge this shit because all of this is your fault, you wanted so bad to see the park open for years so there you have it, your corporate dinosaur park (the chastisizing of the audience trying to be clever and meta is just condescending and hypocrite) while trying to ride the coattails of a much superior movie by ripping off all its memorable beats because it doesn't even have half of an original idea that isn't downright stupid compared to the original. Hey Squirrel Blue Raptor!

Money?

You can ask for better class of films it but they dont wont care as the real money is in generic entertainment.

Hollywood is about money and it is a tad hilarious how we always forget this fact on this forum.

I knew I come off as a jerk but sometimes I wonder what mushroom you guys are on sometimes.

Remember the world is dark and full of terrors.

As per usual HULK sums up my thoughts and makes them better!

NEVER HATE A MOVIE BUT JURASSIC WORLD SURE AS HECK HATES YOU.

DRAMALESS, MEAN, BIPOLAR IN REGARD TO BOTH DEATH AND ANIMALS, AND SEEMINGLY HATES WHEN WOMEN ARE EITHER PROFESSIONAL OR FEMININE.

THE FIRST 30 MINUTES IS EVEN SERVICEABLE BUT THEN IT JUST BECOMES 90 MINUTES OF NOISE. THERE ISNT A SINGLE REAL "SEQUENCE" EVEN.

@FilmCritHULK Jurassic World may hate you, but it loves all your money.

"Turn off your brain" is a disease. I thought we were done with this mentality after Transformers. If movies like Furious 7 can make all the dots align and provide thrills that make contextual sense, nothing else should be excused.

Who cares if film is not art to a majority of people?? Why does that mean that we can't ask for a better class of summer blockbuster?

Jurassic World is gonna single-handedly put to rest the tired old argument too many fanboys use that lots and lots of money = great or timeless movie.  FFS, the movie itself is a critique of the corporate commercialism and consumerism that gives crappy or lazy movies large boxoffice numbers all the time and has intellectual bloggers like HULK thinking they're onto something by saying the movie is mean and hates us.  For this, JW deserves our gratitude.

Jurassic Park made a shit load of money back in 1993. Now JP is hardly a super intellectual super deep thinking film, but it did have characters that we rooted for, interesting themes brought up that one could either think about or completely ignore after the film had finished, and a plot that made fucking sense (not to mention superior technical aspects like direction and score). I refuse to believe that twenty years on, society as a whole is now so fucking retarded that a movie that treats its audience with an iota of respect is going to crash and burn at the Box Office.

If that means I'm on mushrooms then so be it.

It depends I enjoyed Fast 7 and JW way more then thinking man films like Mad Max and Interstellar.

Entertainment and a well made film are not the same exact thing.

Like I would watch jw and fast 7 many times at home with friends and family...

The other two I liked and give an A but I don't want to ever see them again .

You guys need to understand that fast 7 and jw did so well as they have universal appeal.

There are examples like Tdk doing well but heath ledger death helped it out. (Fast 7 has confirmed the death boost exists)

Because Mad Max is not "entertainment" and too "thinking"? And you put it in the same bag as hodgepodge Interstellar aka we spell you the script aloud 50 times per reels to ensure we don't go gentle into that good night without truckload of exposition dumps? Good grief...facepalm.gif

I know you like to play Joe Schmoe's populist taste spokeperson that wants to turn his brain off against the intellectual cinephile snobs but you do this by spouting those kind of ludicrous statement. Mad Max is a big fun popcorn movie romp. But it doesn't take you for a bubbling idiot oblivious to the basics of good storytelling and effective filmmaking for craving so. (Funny, I just watched it again with my family to celebrate my sister's birthday as a double feature, The Road Warrior followed by Fury Road. Maybe my family is too special and so far removed from the film tastes of the humble plebeian crowd you champion)

Yeah, not entirely sure how you can combine Mad Max and Interstellar together beyond both of them sharing a little bit more ambition than most tentpole releases. Two totally different films though and one was executed much better than the other.

Mad Max is pure popcorn fluff if thats what you want from a movie. It gave us these scenes for fuck sake.

Mad Max is both entertaining and a well made film. And yeah, its appeal in general in going to be less then a Jurassic World type movie because of its subject matter, but that shouldn't let JW off the hook for not being a well made film. I'm not asking for Shakespeare here, I just want summer movies that can entertain and not be quite so disposable once you are done with them.

We need to separate the personal opinion and what the general audience opinion is.

Mad max to you is a popcorn romp...

Imo to suggest that to casual audiences, Mad Max is  fun popcorn entertainment like other summer blockbusters shows how out of touch some of you are with the "plebs" at times.

Mad Max has very limited appeal  compared to JW and Fast 7.

I dont act as the Average guy, I think you guys come on here and sort of forget the plebs and I act as their Tribune.

You believing that you're the 'Tribune of the Plebs' is genuinely the funniest thing I've read on this thread. Seriously, does the word 'pleb' mean something different where you come from? Or is your ego really just that big?

Anyway, I'll admit my thoughts over Jurassic World have kind of slipped with time. When I first saw it, I thought it was a fairly good blockbuster. Maybe not outstanding, but good enough. But the more I think about it and the more I find myself agreeing with some of the critiques (especially around the main two characters and some of the sexism claims)... it's really not a good movie. It has its fair share of good moments and I still enjoy it, but it's become more of a guilty pleasure than a movie I genuinely think is good.

Of course, it's still the best of the JP sequels, but that's like being the least debilitating venereal disease. It's really not much of a compliment.

Ruakio every time I see your name after my post, I know your going to give me some snobbish post with your superior moralizing about how great you are to the wicked LordMandeep..

Of course calling myself 'Tribute of the Plebs' was a joke, just playing into your guys belief that I am some crazy delusion fool because you guys are one dimensional people who see the world is black and white.

A lot of my outlandish comments are just me being a quasi troll at times  :P

I just sit back and laugh on my phone from work seeing the fun.

Seriously, you even didn't finish your own post before you started 'superior moralising' over me. Kinda undermines your entire point there.

Also, I think it's adorable you believe yourself to be some sort of mastermind trolling us all with reckless abandon. Go see Movieman if you want a crash course in how to actually troll people.

Do you think there are too many explosions in Mad Max for it to be considered popcorn entertainment?
