RAMPAGE | 13 April 2018 | Warner Brothers | Dwayne Johnson

Recommended Posts

Well that sure changes things. Guess this really does have to move now, though marketing has already started. Still early enough to bolt to August. Too bad RPO is in the way because April 6th would've been perfect.

I think one issue is, it this film is delibertly silly and over the top to the point of being tongue in cheek, as the trailers indicate, that is going to be a bit hard for a lot of people to grasp. Quite a few in the geek community are exepcting a fairly serious monster epic, and this might be the opposite.

I can see this going either way.

And Johnson needs to start thinking about spreading out this vehicles more.

Who would be expecting a serious monster epic from Rampage? Did they watch the trailers?

You would be amazed how often people's misconeptions can stick around.....

I stand that the kind of over the top silliness that his film apparently indulges in is iffy at the box office.

The trailer convinced me to go see this (I had written this off before as just another monster on the rampare film, which are a dime a dozen nowdays) whereas before I had little interests, but not sure how this wil sell to a large audience.

I think this can potentially co-exist with IW (assuming it's a solid movie).

Depends on how much they spent on it,really. It if a big budget movie, then going up against IW is NOT a good idea.

You're gonna need to provide proof of this because I do not believe that at all.

Me too, sorta. WB won't risk it, though.

Yeah, since it and IW have the same target audience, you can't pull off counterprogramming a ls "Devil Wears Pravda" or "Momma Mia" this time.

Why? It's not opening against it directly. It gets its own weekend, plus weekdays... sure, it'll take a hit on IW's OW, but it would likely take a hit anyway. Easier to get the recognition/awareness of its own #1 weekend then try to do that a week after IW opens (when it would almost certainly open to #2).

P.S. I don't buy that they're the exact same audience. Some cross-over, sure. Not entirely though.

WB is probably piiiiiiiissed. Before IW moved, RAMPAGE was the only tentpole of the entire month, was it not?

Yep. There are a couple potential horror hits in A QUIET PLACE and TRUTH OR DARE, but that's it.
