Aladdin live action movie | 24 MAY 2019 | Disney | 7th most profitable movie of 2019. Disney does it again!

It's not about being aided by it. It's about not being AS affected by it as some claim. Avatar had the "social agenda" and "Blue Pocahantas" issues. Black Panther had its issues. So did The Last Jedi and Indy 5. They weren't "aided" by hatred but they were also not decimated by it. And there's BvS which, despite its horrible drops, still had a $166 million OW and made well over $300 million. Not so well fared by its follow up but that's a different story.

Solo was the epitome of "meh". No hatred. No love, Nothing. Aladdin may well end up being the car wreck that everyone has to slow down to see that actually ends up with a decently good result.

Really?

I'll do much better, I'll tell you which is the next one.

Captain Marvel. Just posted recently a detailed analysis in CM thread - but it got mod-deleted swiftly - so not gonna post it here again, just in case. You'll have to do your own analysis on this, Tree.

I have no idea why they're ignoring "A Whole New World" btw

BATB and TLK have both used their respective signature songs in their trailers since Day 1

Like imagine a Frozen remake in 2038 or something and the trailers aren't playing "Let It Go"

Please don't scare me like that :(

I want Aladdin to bomb to help end the live action remake trend but sadly this movie will make the bank for Disney. The only question is how much money they will earn from it. The nostalgia factor alone will make this movie a success.

If Aladdin bombs, they'd only very briefly have cold feet until Lion King roars and makes bank.

I missed that! Wow didn't know that. Surprised they chose Lilo and Stitch to go for next.

To be fair it is the only remake from the 2000s era that make any decent money.

Still don't think it'll matter, Lion King and Avengers will make up for it.

As odd as it is, even if Disney loses, it still ends up winning.

I’m not saying that Disney will go bankrupt or anything, but if two of the three remakes they’re releasing this year end up not doing very well, could that potentially give them pause moving forward?

The word "bomb" has become quite ambiguous and relative. Solo was a "bomb" that made $213 million while Antman & Wasp was a decent success that made $216 million. BvS was a "bomb" while Aquaman is a HUGE success despite them both making the same amount. So it's very subjective.

But we'll know these are bombs when/if it happens. Meanwhile, people are getting sick of sequels and remakes while critics continue to destroy anything new that takes risks. Hence, going back to sequels and remakes that have more chance of being at least somewhat big despite reviews. It's a terrible cycle. The ONLY way that cycle will break is if critics get together and lie a bit to give a boost to new properties just to get more new properties out there, in hopes for the new "Star Wars" for this generation. Not going to happen so new properties don't stand a chance (especially in the streaming age). Thus sequels and remakes are where it's at with the box office.

$620m on a $160m budget =/= $390m on a $275m budget. There's nothing subjective about that.

Anyone calling BvS a bomb is to be really blunt, an idiot.

A Frozen remake is definitely happening lol

Absolutely.

It is such a beloved property (and such a huge seller of ancillary stuff) that there is no way in hell that 15, 20 years from now Disney does not remake it as a live action spectacle.
