Weekend estimates: 15.90 M THE MARTIAN | 15.50 M GOOSEBUMPS | 11.37 M BOS | 10.83 M TLWH | 9.00 M HT II | 8.20 M PA: TGD | 7.27 M STEVE JOBS

A $90m budget isn't small.

The quality of the movie with it's 17% on RT isn't helping.

Its quite the weekend for horrendously reviewed movies. Steve Jobs' RT% > the other 4 wide releases' RT percentages added together.

Riddick and Witch Hunter prove Diesel can't carry a movie.

The irony is he's central to the success of a billion dollar franchise.

Or they prove that he makes really, really bad script choices. With the right concept and budget there's no reason Vin Diesel couldn't have some modest successes. The Rock has done it.

Was listening to the radio on the drive to work and the radio ad for "The Last Witch Hunter" started "Horrible things are coming. The Last Witch Hunter starring Vin Diesel in theaters now". Whoever combined the dialogue with the actual ad knew what they were doing.

Did the Rock really carry San Andreas, though?

Disaster movies sell themselves.

Like everybody else, I have to laugh at Jem,but fact is that Last Witch Hunter is going to be ,finiancailly a much more painful film.

Jem cost 5 Million;it;s bombing is like a quarter dropping out of your coat pocket into the gutter. But TLWH with a 90 Million dollar budget is going to cause some hurt at Lionsgate. Luckily they have Mockingjay 2 coming out, but, still, with their major cash cow franchise coming to an end Lionsgate will be in real trouble if they continut to spend major bucks on films like "TLWH".

To be fair, the last Riddick was made totally independently (he stuck his neck out on that), and cost less than half of LWH...is probably a better movie...and will probably end up better "on the books" than LWH, as well.  But yes, your point is taken.
