TFA was reported with a record breaking $6,6m in Sweden last year.

http://www.insidekino.de/Archiv/ARCHIVNewsDEZ15.htm

Those are 5d-Results, as both opened on Wednesday.
TFA had a $1,7m OD, so that $3,9m number is just Fri-Sun (official WE in Sweden).

So it's again: Don't trust in BOM if it comes to OS numbers :)

Seeing how the Holidays are lined up this year, a very nasty drop seems unavoidable for the upcoming weekend. Anything over 55m would be okay since it likely won't drop much (might even increase) the weekend after.

Only to be sure:

you are aware about in some countries the cinemas are being closed on parts or complete days during the holidays by law?

I think there are a few new little details in this chart:

TFA did about $6.6m in malaysia last year, good but not a great number as it even fall behind the ant-man, nearly catch up by san-andreas, and three mega-blockbuster, JW,avengers 2 and FF7 were all scored $10m above with FF7 even reached $16m+

I must say, here in malaysia, hype for star wars really not that strong

I still haven't found here anyone who has seen any advertising for Rogue One, but a radio speaker mocked about the inability of an US journalist to say the name of one of the actors correctly (he 'massacred' the name it seems), but she didn't do that good neither, as she said the 'name-massacre' was about Rouge One (= the only time me or my son even heard the title getting mentioned at least)

Question: is Malaysia one of the countries directly or per ... involved into the China vs several countries about the ... sea quarrel?

Ahh, thank you, I wasn't sure

= I asked because a time before the release someone (maybe Olive or Gavin Feng???) said, that to have him on the cast (or was the other Chinese actor= might even hinder the BO in some Asian countries, as one of those two spoke pro-China about that dispute and that caused (I think) reactions of fans out of the involved countries.

Not saying it will have an impact, but you wrote earlier 'countries are strongly "attached" to donnie yen' = so maybe the theoretically plus got dampened a bit?

Or.... we will probably get to read a few articles later on? Do your newspapers / film magazines... discuss such things?

Always curious to learn new POVs :)

@terrestrial I talked to Olive where he told me that RO might do less than TFA in China like around Star Trek Beyond numbers because he told me that at a press screening in China reaction was mixed and that less buzz for RO in China than TFA.

As told earlier, I wasn't one to 'expect' as high OS numbers as others seem to do. I had seen the pre-press screening posts for China with the hopes for more, but am not the type to expect them, especially not in China, where ratings can be so important and we do not even know how the GA will react to it. Seeing the IMHO rather strongly differing reviews at Rottentomatoes... I am not surprised to learn about Chinese press reactions is mixed too.

I think they hope for more in China as Beyond, as they seem at least there to do advertising, but still, it would be over/better than the minus 50% or minus even more than 50% as in a lot of countries (based on exchange rates changes this depends on of he meant in US$ or kocal currency)

I think it was Olive, who already hinted at the content might not be to the liking of the Chinese GA, and some people were also wondering how on earth they managed to get it even allowed, assuming cuts = change the film...

I am also interested to hear if the leaked / illegal filmed film will be of impact or if, in which parts / percentages the Chinese BO

Star Trek Beyond

China   PPI   9/2/16   $30,448,292    46.7%    $65,170,090    10/23/16

SW 7

China     -    1/9/16    $52,348,430   42.2%   $124,159,138     7/20/16

if it does only STB numbers in China I think that could put 500 OS into question. Everything is pointing to it underperforming in China despite Donnie and Jiang Wen, if China actually does 100M + that would actually buck the global trend so far, I guess we'll see.

@chrisman0606 I forgot to add: there are rumors (havednt checked yet) about eg XXX also getting a release date in that time frame = maybe expect less and have an eye on other competition incl local? The release date is - as I understood - not ideal already - as so often for foreign films
