By Sunday that gap will be 250-260M with conservative drops/increases and could be as much as 290-300M with aggressive drops/increases.

a2k
Avatar fell 19.9% (19.42m) on the same Monday and it's Mon-Thu was 70.67m. If SW makes 33m (-23.5%), then Mon-Thu could be 120m (inclusive of 33m). Or say 105m if it holds less well %wise than Avatar (or makes <33m on Monday). 105m Mon-Thu will give it 645m by Thu. A 50% drop for the 3rd weekend will give it 75m more for a 720m total. Avatar had a 68.5m 3rd weekend and added 400m more to it's run ignoring the re-release. If SW7 adds half of that after it's 3rd weekend it will get 920m.

Yes, it needs 340M more than JW to eclipse $1B. It also happens to be about 340M more than Avatar at this point in its run, which is where my 11PM tired brain got turned around. Hell, JW made more than 150M coming from 54.6M 3rd weekend while TA made 56M 3rd weekend went on to make additional 166M so again, why exactly would SW7 make only 200M more after a 75M 3rd weekend? Remember it has held way better than either of those behemoths.
The Panda
Also, if it didn't drop near 50% off its opening weekend with massive previews and a massive weather disaster. It won't drop 50% this weekend.

MJ2 which was looking like an O/U 300M finish is now looking at O/U 280M. Spectre will barely hit 200M and TGD has completely failed to show any good holds, it will end up being a major misfire for Pixar at the box office. Sisters and Alvin 4 both seem to have held their own against TFA as well. Really good numbers for both those movies. Daddy's Home looks like it became the default family choice thanks to the PG rating and star power.
Daxtreme
Disney’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens is continuing on its phenomenal trajectory as audiences on Monday just added another estimated $31.5M to bring the sci-fi franchise up to a gross of about $572.6M on its way to $600M in the next 48 hours or so. http://deadline.com/2015/12/star-wars-the-force-awakens-with-stellar-monday-box-office-1201673778/ -- I say 24h, not 48h! Remember it has held way better than either of those behemoths. Because holidays come to an end. JW and TA had consistent summer days throughout. SW has Christmas and New Years till the 3rd weekend. 28 minutes ago, The Panda Menace said: Also, if it didn't drop near 50% off its opening weekend with massive previews and a massive weather disaster. It won't drop 50% this weekend. Christmas on Friday helped. Avatar dropped 1.8% and 9.4% in the 2nd and 3rd weekend. SW dropped 40% in 2nd weekend. Now, 7pm previews did inflated it's ow, but had it released on midnight instead of 7pm, I think it would still have made a huge portion of that 57m. It would have at least matched Harry Potter's 45m even if previews started at 12 am. So using a 235m ow (assuming 45m would-have-been-true-midnights), it's 2nd weekend drop was 35%. Like Avatar it should drop harder this weekend than last. 45% if not 50%. It's conservative I guess. It could do better and drop 35-40%. mkgenie
http://www.china.org.cn/arts/2015-12/28/content_37411306.htm Disney's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," the latest installment of the blockbuster space saga franchise, premiered in Shanghai on Sunday while its global box office haul hit the US$1 billion at record pace, China.org.cn reported from Shanghai. Walt Disney Studios held a grand premiere ceremony in Shanghai with director J.J. Abrams, leading actors Daisy Ridley and John Boyega, as well as producer Kathleen Kennedy and special guest star Donnie Yen with droids BB-8 and R2-D2 all walking the red carpet amid cheering fans. Before they stepped into the Shanghai Grand Theatre to meet the first batch of VIP guests and fans who would see the new film for the first time in an advance screening, the nearby landmark hotel Le Royal Meridien Shanghai, housed by one of the tallest buildings in China, the 333.3-meter-high Shimao International Plaza, lit up two huge "lightsabers" on the top of the building, which could be seen everywhere in the city. The "lightsabers," two decorated spires of the building, will keep lighting up at night -- one in red and one in blue light -- until Jan. 1, 2016, another marketing campaign after Disney lit up Beijing's Great Wall in October. The crew of the film greeted the fans before the advance screening. Many fans were dressed like popular characters from the films, such as storm troopers, Princess Leia, Jedi, Chewbacca and Darth Vader. Donnie Yen also stepped on stage and said he is one of the cast members of the upcoming "Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One," a standalone story. The film will premiere next Christmas. Another famous Chinese actor-and-director Jiang Wen is also in the cast. "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," an exciting film while with huge nostalgia aspects, brought back classic characters such as Han Solo played by Harrison Ford. The crowd cheered and applauded every time any classic character appeared on the temporarily installed IMAX screen during the screening in Shanghai. As the China premiere ended, the film had already created the largest second weekend of all-time in the North America and the world. The film has now grossed more than US$544 million domestically and another US$546 million internationally, totaling over US$1 billion in worldwide ticket sales in just 12 days, the box office tracking website BoxOfficeMojo.com reported. Topping the weekend for a second straight weekend with an estimated US$153.5 million, "Star Wars 7" is now the second highest grossing domestic release of 2015, behind "Jurassic World," with US$544.5 million and the 15th highest grossing worldwide release of all-time. It's also now the record holder for the largest second weekend of all-time, besting "Jurassic World's" previous record by a massive US$46.9 million. In fact, the records are piling up so quickly that it's becoming ridiculous as it is now the fastest movie to cross US$100, US$150, US$200, US$300, US$350, US$400, US$450 and US$500 million as well as holds the largest three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine and ten day grosses. The Chinese release date of the new installment of the "Star Wars" saga is set for Jan. 9, 2016. The Chinese performance will decide how high the worldwide total of the film can go as China is the second largest film market in the world. JonathanLB
Well, 3x even $31.5M is $94.5M. So you're saying the weekend isn't going to be as good as the first three weekdays of this week? I... can't really see that.
