Jason
13 hours ago, MinaTakla said: New chart - @Jason, any updated predictions for worst/best case scenarios for the OS run? Last time we discussed this a month ago, 450m OS seemed to be the most realistic. Are you seeing a different attainable figure now? The markets that opened up to the weekend of August 12-14 ("current markets") should have a total of close to $380M (individual estimates add up to $381M). Markets that opened up this past weekend should be pretty close to $35M (individual estimates add up to $36M). As before, the following table groups the markets by opening date, and shows your original estimates from earlier, a raw unrounded calculation for those markets combined, my estimates (from August 4 where applicable), and the adjusted ER totals of Despicable Me 2, Minions, Inside Out, and Zootopia. Quote Market Grouping Original MT Calculation My Estimate DM2 Minions IO Zootopia Current markets (up to July 17) $66 $68,551,639 $67 (Aug. 4) $74,515,218 $98,636,431 $73,509,923 $52,724,922 Current markets (up to July 24) $98 $93,642,337 $98 (Aug. 4) $91,866,930 $141,908,650 $100,771,073 $73,634,667 Opening markets (July 31) $85 $87,412,117 $97 (Aug. 4) $107,647,741 $154,971,837 $90,566,876 $86,929,070 Remaining markets (after July 31) $181 n/a $250 (Aug. 4) $250,157,121 $386,608,783 $258,929,893 $482,475,571 Remaining markets - China + SK $151 n/a $185 (Aug. 4) $195,985,931 $307,901,554 $211,643,141 $223,996,795 Current markets (up to Aug 14) $276 $387,764,031 $381 $335,959,955 $538,592,625 $353,090,619 $548,884,103 Current markets - (China + SK) $246 $304,835,228 $301 $281,788,765 $459,885,396 $305,803,866 $290,405,326 Current markets - (Chn + SK + Jap) $229 $250,884,808 $251 $258,825,422 $410,227,253 $268,031,168 $218,619,385 Opening markets (Aug 21) $21 $34,293,670 $36 $24,783,296 $40,083,197 $21,860,679 $38,620,526 Remaining markets (after Aug 21) $66 n/a $80 $88,928,541 $104,813,447 $75,316,545 $55,534,680 It is now apparent that Pets will gross well above DM2 and IO in current markets, but upon closer examination, Pets did particularly well in China, South Korea, and Japan. The total for Pets outside of these markets is tracking just slightly below that of DM2 and IO. The remaining markets for Pets are Australia/NZ, Brazil, Italy, and a handful of smaller Asian markets. Pets has been pretty comparable overall in Europe and Latin America, and I think it will tend a little more closely to DM2 in the smaller Asian markets. My estimate for remaining markets: $80M. Total OS estimate for Pets is then 380+35+80 = $495M. Definitely has a chance of passing $500M, although could also fall just short. Domestic estimate is $370M, WW = $865M. MinaTakla
5 minutes ago, Jason said: The markets that opened up to the weekend of August 12-14 ("current markets") should have a total of close to $380M (individual estimates add up to $381M). It is now apparent that Pets will gross well above DM2 and IO in current markets, but upon closer examination, Pets did particularly well in China, South Korea, and Japan. The total for Pets outside of these markets is tracking just slightly below that of DM2 and IO. The remaining markets for Pets are Australia/NZ, Brazil, Italy, and a handful of smaller Asian markets. Pets has been pretty comparable overall in Europe and Latin America, and I think it tend to little more closely to DM2 in the smaller Asian markets. My estimate for remaining markets: $80M. Total OS estimate for Pets is then 380+35+80 = $495M. Definitely has a chance of passing $500M, although could also fall just short. Domestic estimate is $370M, WW = $865M. Planodisney
I'm surprised at that Brazil number. Not that it's bad but I thought this was the perfect animated movie for Brazil. Its way below Dorys opening weekend and actually below its 2nd weekend.

Let's just say it was a simple idea that would actually better kept simple as a short movie. Stretching it to 90 minutes is, well, stretching. Also, the opening short film. Instead of giving us something very special in a very short amount of time (like some other studio), Illumination gave us ..... more Minion antics. That actually set the mood for me.
