yes. IA5 bombed even worse than what I thought a week back. Pets should do 350m domestic and may be 550m os for 900m WW.

I am thinking 900m WW is too high but @keysersoze123's WW predictions are usually on point. Maybe 750-800m could be a less ambitious/more realistic target for Pets given the ER. But who knows? Maybe it's early to tell..

 

Anyways, here are the latest updates on its 2-day Argentinian run.

For comps, Minions 2-day was a non-holiday 254K. Pets made around 300K but with holiday.

It should still do decent since it will be only big animated movie in August,IA5 hits on Aug.22nd.

750M is very likely no matter what.

Because it's not going to 335 domestic.  Looking at its 2nd weekend hold compared to other original animated features, it was not good at all.  I wouldn't be shocked if it actually comes in st 49 million tomorrow as they were calculating a VERY big Sunday hold on that weekend estimate.

Universal Pictures’ The Secret Life of Pets enjoyed another strong international weekend, taking in another $10M in 14 territories (the animated favorite expanded into more Latin American markets) for an early total of$63M. Combined with the estimated domestic cume of $260.7M, Pets is barking up the money tree with $323.7M worldwide. The film, which has continued its dominance abroad in almost every territory opening, was No. one in its weekend bow in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Paraguay.

In fact, Argentina had a record-breaking No. 1 debut with $3.7M at 200 dates — the biggest opening weekend ever for an animated film and the second biggest opening ever for any film (only behind Fast & Furious 7). Similarly, Chile opened with $1.9M at 60 dates, which marks the biggest opening weekend for an animated film there. Colombia opened No. 1 with a big $1.6M.

Of its holdover markets, the U.K. and Ireland is No. 5 and is keeping pace with Inside Out in the market — adding another $1.4M this weekend, its 31-day total is $37.5M. Pets still has another 52 markets to open in and will do so over the next few months, beginning next weekend with a big push into France, Germany, Austria, French and German-Switzerland, Mexico, Panama and Uruguay. China opens on Aug. 2.

Summary of the openings so far. Not necessarily means it will reflect on others but this is what we know so far:

1. Highest OW for an original animated non Disney film in Israel

2. Highest OW for an animated film in Argentina

3. Highest OW for an animated film in Chile

4. Columbia: not sure, but what I know is that it opened higher than JB and lower than IA5. Not sure about Dory.

5. Highest OW for an original animated film in Hong Kong (Edited, thanks BlueBomb)

6. Highest OW for an original but non Disney film in UK and if we exclude the Lego movie because it's based on a property, then it is now the highest grossing non Disney original animated film there.

7. Highest OW weekend for an original animation in Vietnam

8. Higher OW than Minions in Norway - also not sure if that is an overall record or not. No data there.

Not sure about Taiwan. It's doing well there but we don't have any comps. 

No record in India.

Am staying conservative in the 400m OS range until we see Europe and China. In the Chinese thread, they're saying the release date isn't so great but it won't have competition for 3 weeks as IA5 only hits after 3 weekends. So am not sure if it will blow up OS that much yet..

Highest OW for an original in Hong Kong. It did 1% better than Inside Out's OW.

So no record - and in admissions Minions ist still higher. Had much better legs though and made 460k. Surpassing Zoo (225k) could be the goal. (Data from InsideKino)

 

In gross, according to BOM, Pets won with 778k to 698k. But it's probably not a record - even in gross. IA2 had 190k admissions on OW (second best Alltime).
