Star Wars enjoys phenomenal popularity in developed markets but WW the only movie that's truly in a league of its own is Avatar.

That will change with Avatar 2.

No way it makes anything close to 2.7 billion.

Please don't call me a hater, because I am not.

Has ANYONE considered this movie opening way, way lower than we are all anticipated?

I am talking $160-$170 million, BvS range?

- Superhero fatigue?, specially "Avengers"

- Frontloadness?

- Ultron ugly internal multiplier.

This would be something in these forums if this happens.

Just realized we will have 4 100M+ OWs this year already with plenty more to come, in 2014 we had 2 100M+ OWs the whole year. Last year has the record with 6 100M+ OWs. This year could easily eclipse that.

Not to mention a March movie with a $75M opening weekend and a final dom total that will probably be around $340M.

How is it only getting $160-170m off a $25m preview #...please show us that Fri-Sun breakdown.

The dollar has increased about 30% on the Canadian dollar since TA opened. With Canada being about 10% of the DOM gross, you actually have a 3% decrease in the gross compared to 2012.

Say CW does $194.5 OW, adding 3% would get it over $200M.

Because expectations always get the best of some and so they turn around and blame the movie instead of sucking it up. It's like clockwork.

Are you talking about CW?

Who's blaming the movie?

We're just debating over or under AOU.

The Force Awakens Opening Week end record will last 10 years.

At least.

You read it first here.

Agreed, but it doesn't need to. Anything over 2.066b will keep it ahead of Star Wars for the foreseeable future.

But that would still be about 70?% higher than the last Cap movie.....no fatigue at all imo.

A little less I think. 2% inflation for 10 years puts JW's OW at $255m and I think another movie will do better adjusted by then.

2 billion to 1.5 billion is not the same with 1 billion to 0. 5 billion .  One is double the other not 30% more . Nevermind that previous recent sw movies have lost badly to marvel movies . I am in awe about that comment and the likes it got but I guess people will leave common sense and logic behind just to support an argument .

Are you talking about the prequels since late 90s and early 2000s were a much different time for OS box office. Are talking Spider Man movies to the prequels?

Well, this is still a Captain America movie.  So whatever it opens to it does not spell out any kind of fatigue.....it's going to pretty much double the opening of WS.....so what is there to complain about?

500m WW is lot.

yes

That like saying 500m WW and 1B WW are in the same league.

hmm..I don't agree fully. % matters.

1.5b is 75% of 2b. 500m is 50% of 1b.

So even though 2b is in a different league than 1.5b, and 1b is in a different league than 500m, they are so by varying degrees.

1.5b is closer to 2b %-wise than 500m is 1b.

As another example, 1b and 1.1b would be in the same league, but 10m and 110m would be in different leagues, even though the gap is 100m in both the cases.

That's easy.

$75 million Friday

$52.5 million Saturday

$42.5 million Sunday
