CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR takes first place this weekend with $72.5M, a -59% decline, on 4,226 screens. ‪#‎CaptainAmericaCivilWar‬

That would make it the biggest second-weekend decline ever for the MCU, right?

Does suggest something is going on, whether it's outside factors or just the nature and tone of the film itself.  I don't think anyone would suggest CW has worse reception than, say, The Incredible Hulk or The Dark World.

I've been saying this since Freddy Vs Jason in 2003. Sometimes a bit second week drop is fanboy rush, not always bad WOM.

Nothing wrong with audiences rushing to see a film.

Also had the 2nd biggest previews (25m) after Ultron's (27.6m), which had the previous biggest second-weekend decline ;)

Well, well. Zootopia did better than my Derby Prediction. Too bad it missed the top 5 on its 11th weekend, but that's only because The Darkness didn't flop too hard and people still went to see Mother's Day for some reason.

Oh yeah, there were other movies. Money Monster blew my expectations out of the water. I guess people who want to see R-rated dramas have something to be happy about. *cough* @No Prisoners

The Jungle Book's 5th weekend didn't exceed Zootopia's 5th, so I'm happy about that on a fanboy level. And Captain America 3 is doing just fine.

It sure takes something special to make a 180m OW and a 420m gross a boring run, but Marvel managed it, somehow.

Well they haven't truly had a breakout film since GOTG.

It's unlikely that Dr. Strange will be the next one, the subject matter is less appealing. I think that film performs in line with  Ant-man, Thor, and CA:the first avenger.

In fact I'm not sure if Marvel has any surprise box office performances left. Especially since they aren't the only cinematic universe  in the game anymore.

Don't get me wrong, they're far from being in trouble, its just not going to be as fun following  their films at the office.

I don't care what anyone says. Not even making 1.2 billion for CW is a BITTER DISAPPOINTMENT after it's opening.

Who says it won't make 1.2B? It's run is pretty muck neck-to-neck w/Iron Man 3's. On both their 3rd weekends of global release, CW did about 10M less OS and 10M more DOM. IM3's WW haul around this time was at 949M, CW's is at 940M. It will surely beat that mark at the very least. Calm down.

Devil's advocate would be that IM3 had a softer drop internationally (and grossed slightly more this weekend as well).

Money Monster could pull 55 million, maybe? I expect it to have really good legs just because the space isn't very  crowded for adult dramas.

The Nice Guys comes out next week. It's not a drama, but it's supposedly adult.

CW is 11m ahead of IM3. If it maintains that lead it will end it's run at ~420m (IM3 was 409m).
